"Disappointing"

4.0

I would really recommend not staying here during the warmer months. There's no air conditioning. Furthermore, there were no screens on the window in our room so when we opened the windows to let fresh air in it also let in bugs. My room was also near hotel restaurants smoker just outside, so it was quite smoky at times as well. The staff did try to help by providing a second fan, but overall it was just very uncomfortable because of the heat, bugs, and smoke. I would imagine this hotel is much better during the colder months when the lack of air conditioning is not an issue.

"Amazing Meals at the Western Hotel Ouray"

10.0

We ate at the Saloon for lunch after completing the Perimeter Trail. We ordered the gazpacho, sliders and hummus. The food was inventive and fun. The food feels old world western yet contemporary at the same time. We split the mezcal cocktail which was also great. The pianist playing on the Victorian piano was phenomenal. The service was top notch. We took a few peeks around the hotel and knew we had to come back. We had reservations somewhere else, but decided to cancel them to come back for dinner. The main dining room was beautiful. The mountain view out the back of the room makes the experience with lovely wall decor and unique pieces throughout. We had some allergy and substitution concerns. The chef promptly came out and listed off every possible substitution for each dish. We ordered the “t-bone” Sturgeon along with root veggies bravas and a salad. The cocktails were great. The Sturgeon was out of this world. A perfect preparation and cook on it. A perfect dish to share as a couple. The sides paired nicely with the star fish. The chef made allergy substitutions not omissions. Which is what we are always looking for. The chef even came out for feedback and to chat, superior service. The food, ambiance, decor, and service felt like we were transported in time to the old west when things were simpler and life was good. 5 stars.

"Nice rooms, but lack of attentiveness from staff and no AC."

6.0

So I actually really liked the room. It is a historic building but the rooms are modern and clean. I got a text ahead of time with my check-in information, my room number, and the code. When I checked in in the evening, the lady at the desk seemed annoyed and asked me if i got the text with the info. I brushed it off as busy holiday weekend. But, I found the same attitude to be the case anytime I had to stop and ask questions over the course of the next few days, it seemed like I was an inconvenience to them as they were taking care of the restaurant/bar as well. I don’t actually know what all was downstairs as I was never offered a tour or described what amenities there were, I looked at the menu online and it seemed expensive, so I didn’t bother to check it out. There were 2 expired yogurts in the fridge..like a month expired. I thought someone had left them in the room, until I saw that that was the case in another review as well. My room was on the second floor and had to walk up 24 steps…so a high second floor. There was no AC, and this might be an Ouray thing, as some restaraunts/stores didn’t have AC, but there was no fan or screens for the windows. My room got as high as the 80s. I cannot imagine what the third floor would have been like. The room cooled off well in tbe evening but if no AC, a fan needs to be in the room. The location was perfect and i really liked my room despite mid-day hear, but I would not stay here again.

"Exceptional"

The rooms are very clean, spacious and historic, yet modernized. The beds are comfortable and the kitchenette in each room was nice to have. You can't beat the location in the heart of downtown Ouray. Also, make sure to check out the restaurant inside the hotel. We didn't know it was there until check in and were so glad a reservation was available. It was amazing! We will definitely be staying here when we come back.

"Very over priced for the "modern" quality! "

6.0

This is an old hotel that has been remodeled, the function of out room was very disappointing, the bed was almost on the ground , cannot open windows for air flow, also no blinds on the windows for privacy , and there is only a small little fan, there is no place to sit in the room beside the low bed. The function of the kitchenette was also terrible. There were missing door handles into the bathroom , so again no privacy. Since they had remodeled this , they shouldve went through each room and did an inspection, blue painters was found underneath the kitchen cabinets were the lights were supposed to be.. Paying $300 + per night was very upsetting considering the condition this room was in. Pictures on the website didnt match the room we reserved. Also the stairs getting to the rooms were very steep and not sure if they can accommodate people with disabilities, which is not ok! Very disappointed, because staying in Ouray is one of our most favorite CO destinations.

This property is a beautifully restored 1800s hotel. They kept it very rustic while updating the small kitchen and bathrooms in the rooms. The dining at the restaurant on site was delicious and the bar was nice as well. The location is right in the middle of town which makes walking anywhere and everywhere very easy. There are no TVs which was refreshing. There is no A/C which I would think is ok most of the year. We stayed in late May and our room was on the 3rd (top) floor so it got pretty warm. There is no ceiling or floor fans and the three windows in the room only open about 3-4 inches, I'm assuming for safety. I would imagine the warmer summer months would make the rooms much warmer at night. Overall this was a lovely stay and we will definitely be back if we are visiting in the cooler months of the year.
