Carlton Hotel

Friendly staff, good value for money.

Old building, small room, wash basin in room, very small and outdated toilet and shower.

Was een oud hotel. Personeel was aardig en helpend

Badkamer verf kwam van de douche af dit lag op de badkamervloer. Glas deur voor de kamer was wel ondoorzichtig maar en er hing vitrage voor maar was vreemd. Er lagen oordopjes in de kamer en ik denk dat we deze kamer hebben gekregen vanwege de hond.ondankts dat we op de 2de verdieping zaten was het toch jammer dat twee pub gasten met elkaar op de vuist gingen onder onze kamer met de nodige geschreeuw etc erbij. Tweede nacht maar eigen oordopjes ingedaan. Bed was pfff veel achterstallig onderhoud ook in de ontbijtzaal. Gare gordijnen etc..

De staat van de kamer viel mij tegen. De kozijnen zijn nodig aan vervanging toe. Het tochtte enorm. We hebben er een handdoek opgelegd. De oordopjes voor de meeuwen was geen overbodige luxe, maar een noodzaak.

Staff on site were friendly, and welcoming. Location is good and building exterior is beautiful.

Bathroom was smelly on arrival possibly due to mould. Shower didn’t work. Room was right above bar which was very noisy and locals did not seem welcoming. Cocaine use obvious in bar & customer toilets. Police called to noisily remove woman at 1/2am. Only bartender was also chef and receptionist so service was slow. Food served is basic fried bar food. Good portion sizes but quality low. No sign of live music. Pigeons joined us for breakfast in the dining room where decor was dated and tatty in places. Very basic breakfast, not great quality.

It is quite an old hotel (at least my room was) with basic descent things you need. 10 mins walk from train station. There is nice pub downstairs, where you can check-in until 23.30 or so. I got even one free drink voucher :) The bed was ok too. The price was very acceptable and I believe it corresponds to what you get for the price.

Continental breakfast what I opted for was pretty limited: I took the last one fruit - the orange, and people who came later did not have anymore chance for fruits. Well, I did not starve at the end, but some more fruits/cornflate options etc would be nice. As the hotel is quite old, of course the noise isolation is not perfect, but it was anyway not that many people around.

Room was fine for one night stay. The complimentary drink I received.

It wasn't at any time made clear that there was a fee of £20 for late checkout and I was misled by staff. The Manager needs to do some training in customer service and I felt that she just wasn't prepared to listen to me and believe me and I felt that she basically was calling me a liar.
