"Amazing Christmas lunch!"

10.0

this is the second time we have been for Christmas lunch on Christmas day and I can't recommend this place enough, the family/staff are so attentive and accommodating, the food is to a very high standard and if I'm totally honest the prices are too low for the quality of food rhe produce! They are a hard working, salt of the earth family and they deserve all the credit they get, well done guys and thank you for making our Christmas, hidden gem of Thurso

"Lovely Hosts and a nice Hotel with excellent food."

8.0

During doing the NC500 route and after being let down by Thurso Camping & Caravan site we stayed at the Manor House Hotel. The only room left was a two room with shared bathroom/toilet. As we were with friends and no one else to stay, we had little choice. It turned out to a very nice place, basic rooms but clean. The Host was very friendly, although his Wife, without being disrespectful, was a little miserable at times. Admittedly she was a hard working busy lady. Their Son who worked behind the bar and serving food was also pleasant. The Food in the Restaurant was first class and the best food we tasted in the whole 2 weeks during our stay around Scotland. A good location too especially if you want to do a ferry trip to the Orkneys as the ferry terminal is only a 10 minute drive away. . I would certainly. recommend this for a place to stay.

Great place to stay. The room was very comfortable and location with plentiful parking was very good. Doing some renovations on it but was not a factor. Highly recommended. Great rate.

"Hospitality, Family Run, Support Local"

10.0

We spent 2 nights here with the goal of getting to John O' Groats. Only mentioning this to alleviate any concerns - there is scaffolding, and there are some water stains. This had zero impact on our stay. The roof was damaged due to a storm and is in the process of being repaired. It is a heritage building, so it is taking time. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and throughout our visit. Our room was clean and cozy, and the plumbing and bathroom fan worked better than some of the newer places we have stayed. The food is excellent. The location was perfect for our needs - walkable to/ from the train with our luggage and literally down the street from the bus to/from John O’Groats. Maryellen was a brilliant host, we would absolutely stay here again.

"Handy Hotel for exploring the area"

10.0

Like alot of other folk, I was surprised to see scaffolding all around the hotel, but once inside things improved. The yound man who cheked me in was very pleasant and helpful. My room like alot of other reviews did show signs of water / rain damage above the side window, but the room was clean, nice shower and the bed was comfortable and warm. There seems to be alot of renovation work in progress but none of it disturbed me. There's a small bar area and restaurant, the food is very very good, I had haggis bon bons and then lamb cutlets. The mint cream sauce was a discovery and it complimented the cutlets very well. I'd certainly have dinner ehre again. Breakfast was in a side room off the bar area and again the food was very good, definetly a bonus for a long day travelling. Thanks to you all.

Decent hotel, comfortable bedding but the floor was really annoyingly noisy with every step. It needs some work. The hotel itself was quite noisy too, especially when someone upstairs ran the water, possibly the shower. I’m not sure but it sounded like the water was running inside my room! So loud and annoying. Managed to sleep well though which was the main thing. They had good wifi and tv has Netflix (for you to sign in to your own account) but I had my laptop so just used that. Decent overall. Breakfast was good and staff were lovely.

Irish owner is welcoming, helpful, and a delight. Beautiful rooms and dining on site. Fresh local food - including haddock just off the boat - is offered.

"If you like used bed linens and filth"

2.0

I was assigned a room in a property that had been recently acquired at #3 Janet St rather than the advertised and reviewed #6 Janet St. It made my skin crawl. There were dead flies, sand and grubby carpeting in the entrance to the building. The room was very outdated with dirty, used bed linens. The ‘comforter’ was grey-brown where it was supposed to be white, mainly at the top where people’s arms would be. The pillow cases still had wrinkling by previous customer(s) along the sleeping edge. I cautiously lifted the corner of the comforter for a sniff…it had been a VERY long time since it had been laundered and it stunk. The bed felt to be bed springs with a bit of fabric over them. I was near tears as I could not bring myself to stay in such a room. Luckily I was able to get the last room at The Park Hotel which was a fabulously clean and well run hotel.

Rebecca and her brother were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. We were lucky to be on the first floor. We met her parents the next day ( owners) who were also very friendly and hardworking. My dinner and our breakfasts were very good. Easy access to the ferry and on a quiet street with old stone houses. Thank you for a brief but enjoyable stay.
