Residence Inn by Marriott St Louis Clayton

I’ve stayed at a lot of Residence Inns and this one is by far the best. Beautiful new hotel in Clayton, right across from Shaw Park. The room was huge! Even though it was a studio, it had two living spaces—king bed and a sitting area with a couch and a full window overlooking the park. Plus a well equipped kitchen and a large bathroom. It’s a newish building, clean and in great shape. The visit started on a positive note with the staff. They seemed to be having fun and actually liked each other, which was so welcoming. My glasses broke, so they found some crazy glue and fixed them for me while I was checking in. The breakfast staff actually cared about the food and keeping the tables clean. The valet parkers were really nice, even though we didn’t do valet. Self parking is right next to the hotel. Clayton is a great part of St Louis, lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. We will absolutely be staying here on our next trip to St Louis!

Overall good stay, however, we were initially double charged for our room but was it was corrected when I brought up that we had pre-paid. The parking situation is not ideal with Energizer having most of the good parking spots in the parking garage so you’ll likely have to park on level 2 or 3.

I was surprised the hotel didn't have a swimming pool or a jacuzzi. I accidentally left a new swimsuit in the room. I called the hotel when I realized it, but they said they didn't find it. Obviously, the house cleaner found it and kept it. My fault for leaving it.

There were three of us staying in a room. They didn’t have a double queen left so we booked a king with a sofa sleeper on the Marriott app. When we went to make the sofa sleeper it was just a sofa. The night manager said, “I wish they wouldn’t put that online. Just because you book a room with a sofa sleeper doesn’t mean you are going to get a room with a sofa sleeper.” They didn’t have any additional rooms or a roll away. So three of us slept best we could in a king bed. The one that was supposed to use the sofa sleeper had a 6 am flight so we all ended up awake at 4 am. We will go back to a Westin or doubletree. Thanks Marriott!
