"Wonderful and wish we could have stayed longer"

We were greeted by Arnie with lemonade and a delicious cinnamon cake. She and Fatima took great care of us in our short stay with wonderful food and conversation. Location was beautiful with easy access to the bus

"Pleasant accommodation close to the Pena Palace. Not as 5 star as it looks in the pictures."

7.0

Pool Outside seating area Lovely Phillipino chef and her evening meal The inside sitting area

The room was small and had a few broken fixtures, the towel rails in the bathroom and the blind in the bedroom fell off the wall. Some fittings and fixtures were cheap and faulty though the decor and rooms themselves looked quite lush at first glance. The daily clean was very swift and not thorough. No effort was made to fix the blind or rails when they were left lying by the window. The location was on the one way road up to the Pena palace, it was handy for the Quinta Da Regaleira ( once we worked out how to walk there having been given mostly unhelpful instructions from the host woman) however if trying to get up to the palace or hail a cab or an uber from town no private transport would venture up the hill as the round trip was time consuming and inconvenient. ( especially in traffic from the Pena Palace) . As a result we had to walk often and though its a beautiful walk it is steep and not helpful possibly for older or less fit individuals or in the heat. I would suggest offering private transport or at least offering to organise transport to those sites from the accommodation, that would have been very helpful. Average breakfast, limited range and the inside breakfast room was cramped and unpleasant .Though it was cool during our stay we moved outside as did not want to squash up next to the people beside us. Very cramped and little ambiance. Terrible coffee and a coffee machine that also stopped working. It is hard to pinpoint but there was a strange feeling in the house especially when the host woman was around. You felt almost as if your presence was inconvenient for her and you were in someone's home who would rather you were not there. Though she went through the motions as expected for a host her demeanour was quite frosty. She provided very little information in particular when giving instructions to walk to sites etc, maybe it was her poor english but it was more than that I felt.

We loved everything about this place! It is up there with the best places we have ever been and we are well traveled. From Armie welcoming us at the start with homemade cake and fresh lemonade and giving us tips on the local sights and short cuts, to the charm of the estate home with it's ivy walls and cute dodgos. We could see the Moore Castle and Pena Palace from the courtyard. We could walk to all of the main attractions through the beautiful botanical gardens and short walk to the city centre. But there is a bus outside the door if you are not a walker. We stayed in the chalet which was charming, clean and so bright and the shower was hot and the bed very comfy. Also had a lovely balcony. The infinity pool was incredible!!!! The staff were fantastic, extremely attentive and so nice, making it even more special.. We had a booking for dinner so didn't stay for the dinner here but I am sure it is fantastic, there is really no need to leave this place it's so fab!! The included breakfast way surpassed expectations and was a lovely touch. Am going to tell all my friends and family about this place! It is worth every penny.

It was perfect.
