Dutch Barge, Fisherman's Wharf, Sandwich

This was the perfect setting for a long weekend family break. A quirky yet comfortable place to stay, close to lots of eateries, shops, beautiful buildings. Also good for history lovers - for the 1910 barge, and also the surrounding town. We loved it! Resident ducks too! Great base to visit Deal and other coastal places nearby. Lovely host - made sure we knew and had everything we needed, and kept in touch before, during and after our stay. Thank you!

Nothing negative to say at all. Top tip for families for things to do - book early for the little boat that operates tours to see the local seals... we missed it - but there are plenty of other things to see nearby!

The barge has limited access. Says is suitable for dogs but we don’t feel it is. Not enough information on Booking.com to reflect the access issues. Warning, if you book this accommodation and do not feel able to stay for access issues then you will not get any money back. Make sure you do your research before.

Relaxing week staying on this (static) barge moored centrally near the swing bridge in Sandwich. Communication prior to and upon our arrival was excellent. And thanks to our friendly host Samir who met us and ran through everything on board with us. Also thanks to the lovely cleaning lady, who left the barge spotless for our arrival – plus an added (unexpected) bonus that she came mid-week as well for an in-between clean, to top up the grey water tank and empty the black water tank. Milk, water and snacks available for our arrival and the free secure parking in the boat yard opposite was perfect. We ate out during our stay but all essential kitchen items were available. It was fine for two of us (suspect it would feel a bit cramped for six, mainly due to limited space to store clothing and any other belongings). It is most definitely worthwhile downloading the information app prior to arrival and also the tide tables as you do need to keep track of when the gang plank is accessible to get on and off the barge. Just a suggestion, but for our aging eyes it could do with some brighter lighting in the bathroom and maybe an extractor fan to take away the steam from the shower. Thank you – you even managed to arrange some brilliant weather for us!

We loved our stay on the barge. Sitting out on deck watching the river, ducks and the occasional boat go by was just wonderful. Such a peaceful location in the centre of beautiful Sandwich too. Communication with hosts Samir and Pinky was excellent too.

Amazing place to stay, right in the centre of Sandwich - lots of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Very comfortable and spacious barge with all the facilities you could need. Great communication from the owners and we were met in person and given a full tour with everything explained. Secure parking nearby too.

We enjoyed the experience of being on a tidal river, as it was something we hadn't done before.

We enjoyed ( weather permitting) being sat on the deck having a glass of wine.

Very quirky in a lovely location. And, taking into account that it’s an old barge, very well appointed and comfortable.

Access via a very steep gangplank, exacerbated by very high tides during our visit. Its just one of those necessary evils!
