Absolutely wonderful experience! The hosts were wonderful people! There are 6 rooms and 6 private baths (2 outdoor, 4 indoor) — it is RARE to find a ryokan with this kind of room-to-bath ratio. The food is plentiful and delicious. The hosts were very kind to drop us off at Shirakabadaira Station (2nd station of Shin-Hotaka Ropeway) and at the Nakaokogen Guchi bus stop. The autumn foliage in the ryokan vicinity was beautiful. We definitely recommend staying here!

Beautiful house and rooms, amazing onsen - both indoors and outdoors. Breakfast and dinner was delicious.

Futon so a little hard to sleep on but it’s part of the charm.

L'établissement est situé au coeur des montagnes, la vue est superbe. Les hôtes sont serviables et très sympathiques. La nourriture est incroyable et les bains intérieurs comme extérieurs sont un luxe appréciable.

Amazing onsen and hotel design. You can tell the owners really love what they do. We had a very relaxing time here although we should have stayed longer to enjoy this wonderful retreat properly!

I travelled many hours to get to this location and I was tired. But it was completely worth it. Beautiful area, completely relaxing and serene. The food is exceptional and the staff are kind and speak good English. I’d come back here again and stay at least a few nights.

It is a fabulous ryokan in a quiet area in Japanese Alps. Rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. Breakfasts and dinners are simply delicious. But the best af all - are onsens there - hot, mineral-rich, with a scent of a sulfur, relaxing like nowhere else. And the open-air onsen is just a top - so pleasant that almost impossible to leave.

No complaints at all

Everything! Three weeks in Japan, this was the nicest place I stayed! I traveled on a modest budget, gravitated toward nature to balance the urban abundance of Japan. While this stay pushed beyond that budget a bit, it was worth the price and most would consider the cost very reasonable - let’s call it a luxury bargain! I only stayed one night because it was fully booked! The setting is utterly peaceful. The hosts are kind and accommodating. The food is exquisite, perfectly proportioned. Pay for both meals, just do it. Proximity to rope line for higher elevation hiking is great The baths, indoor and outdoor, are outstanding. Again, my favorite stay in Japan!

Not a “not like” comment, just an obvious fair warning with a solution that works thanks to the hosts! Getting there is a small challenge, the hosts make navigating the public transit easy and are there to transport you to bus stops and local excursions. I stayed only one night but managed to see quite a bit while hiking - left Matsumoto in the morning, train/bus, to Kamicochi. Hiked for five hours. Took the bus to the property, had two hours to relax in the bath. Then enjoyed dinner. A quiet night added to the joy. The next day I hiked five hours on the higher trails via the rope line. I was in Tokyo via bus/train by 9pm. That’s a long way of saying that the remoteness might be viewed as a concern but with the hosts’ help it was not an issue at all! Thank you!

정말 생각보다 좋았습니다. 사장님 부부의 고객서비스도 온천의 시스템도 매우 인상적이고 좋았어요. 내 외부 온천을 프라이빗하게 즐길 수 있는 곳이고 식사도 훌륭했습니다. 매우 인상적이고 추천하고 싶은 숙소입니다.

Very quant ryokan run by a sweet couple. Warm and welcoming. We had the best time using the private outdoor onsens. It was a quiet romantic getaway on our honeymoon and it was perfect! The food was great, so many new things we got to try. The hosts really made the stay feel welcoming. We’d love to come back.
