Momoyama

The Ryokan was great. Just be aware that the nearest bus stop is a 23-minute walk (the last 5 minutes to the Ryokan is really steep walk). The nice owner offers a free shuttle service daily at 10:00AM to Matsumoto station or Matsumoto castle. He even offered to pick us up at 16:00 at Matsumoto station. The food was amazing and the room was very spacious. We loved this Ryokan, and we definitely recommend it.

Staying at this ryokan was an unforgettable experience. Tucked away from the city, it offered stunning views and a peaceful atmosphere that felt like a true escape. The staff didn’t speak English, but their kindness and attentiveness made communication effortless—hospitality really is a universal language. Dinner and breakfast were out of this world—every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor, easily the best meals I’ve had in Japan. The onsen was the perfect way to unwind and soak in the serenity. If you’re looking for a genuine and tranquil ryokan experience, this is the place.

Great stay at Momoyama, friendly hosts, beautiful gardens and fantastic breakfast, shuttle bus to the station too, all round brilliant stays and some of the best views too!

Wonderful garden and room with a view of it. Excellent experience in the hot spring. Slept like a baby after it.

Overall our stay in Momoyama was OK, but not as good as we expected. First and foremost, we felt like it was dirty and neglected. Spots and dust on everything - the towels, the walls, the lamps, the napkins etc. The outside garden felt like it needed some attention. I even saw some mold in the Onsen (which is the only bath you can use). The room is just not inviting. Another issue is that it’s pretty remote from the city, and even though we had a car, it’s not very convenient to go out at night. That’s of course given and known ahead, but the hotel has no lounge or place to hang out, and before you’re having dinner, you don’t even have a bed in your room, as they set the futons up for you after dinner. However, the staff are very very friendly and nice, and the food is good. Some of it is even very good, but some was not to our taste - as it is traditional Japanese food, which we’re not used to.

- The outdoor baths were still in renovation during our stay. - We stayed during winter. Our room was warm but elsewhere was cold. - It is hard to get to without a car because it’s up in the mountains. Thankfully, we were able to ask them to pick us up and drop us off at the Matsumoto station. We called them with the help from the staff at the tourist information kiosk.

From the layout of the outdoor space to the traditional Ryokan room, everything was perfect. We couldn't ask for a more immersive experience to the Onsen culture and Japanese escapism. The staff was lovely. They even learned a few words of Portuguese and shared them with us. I hope all the future visitors of this Ryokan respect and help to preserve it.

It’s very unique. Stylish design and maintenance is very good. The food is good and the shampoo stuffs are good quality.

In the room, the heater had smelled if it worked too long. But it’s cold without heater.
