The staff was really friendly and the onsen was amazing!!! We felt very welcomed and would love to return if given the chance.

The size of our room was really comfortable, the kaiseki dinner and breakfast was really sophisticated and tasty, we could also taste many kind of sake. The owner and the staff (also family members) was friendly. The water in the small onsen was very good for the body. After checkout we received an omiyage.

I believe, this ryokan has seen better days, and deserves a major renovation. There was a misunderstanding in the communication (before our arrival in a heavy rain), which should be quicker and based on internet data (concerning for ex. the train schedule). In the onsen area under the shower there was mold, so the cleaning should be also improved.

Our stay at the Izumi-so was very enjoyable. The family running it was incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a joy coming back after a long day of hiking and to be welcomed there. The traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious and freshly made every day. The Onsen is clean and especially the outdoor bath is quite beautiful. If I have the chance to come back to Gero Onsen I will again stay there.

Nous avons passé une nuit incroyable dans cette auberge des plus sublime ❤️ ce fut ma première expérience dans un ryokan possédant des onsens et je ne regrette absolument pas ce choix. L’ambiance, l’histoire de cette maison et de la famille qui gère l’auberge nous plonge dans les plus belles traditions et culture japonaise que nous aimons tant. (Profitez aussi du village, vraiment ! Gero Onsen regorge de nombreux ashiyu (bains de pied) dans tout le village et, si vous rechercher de la spiritualité, montez jusqu’au Temple d’Onsen-ji.) Les propriétaires de l’auberge sont absolument adorables, souriants et très accueillant. Un grand merci pour nous avoir permis de se loger dans votre demeure et de profiter de la tranquillité des lieux et des onsens 🙏 le temps d’une nuit.

Gorgeous location with spectacular views of the snow capped peaks. Very nice homey feeling. Loved the cats. Local town was sweet and fun to explore. The bedroom was very nice tatami room with fine details. The kitchen is good. We were able to cook with plenty kitchen ware.
