Jackson's Retreat Alpine Holiday Park

We got there 55 minutes early in our rented campervan. We wanted to ask about hiking. Walked to the office, saw the closed sign and turned around to leave. A woman yelled to us, I’m here,I’m here! Went in and she continued to yell & lecture us. When she finally asked if we knew what check in time was, we both try to say yes and we didn’t intend to check in early, but we couldn’t get a word in. We are in our 70’s and have very much enjoyed our 10 days of camping on the South Island. We’ve traveled a lot and never have we experienced this. This place is somewhat remote and there was no cell service, so we thought it would be fine to stop in to ask for information. There were no campers that we saw and no other people. After lecturing us about how much trouble we caused her, we left stunned and found a beautiful campground we decided to stay at. We messaged her through the app as soon as we got cell service and let her know we weren’t staying We asked for a refund and she replied with a different story that isn’t true, said she didn’t get payment, refusing a refund. I expected this. We decided we’d stay someplace else to end our camping trip where we could experience the New Zealand hospitality we’d been experiencing. Since we did not stay, we cannot comment on the facilities. My suggestion is go a little further and stay someplace friendly! BTW….I have been arranging travel for 45 years for my clients and never given a bad review on a place stayed.

the common area was old and not very inviting. kitchensmells all over the place. my room had a big window next to the well frequented path, therefor very little privacy, wifi was not free! (drill)holes in the wall.

The location and scenery were outstanding.

The owners were rude to guests.

Loved how clean everything was! Beautiful kitchen area with all the kitchen utensils/cooking equipment you could want. Loved the piano (although it does need tuning) - this was a lovely addition to the kitchen area. Love how this place is so close to the main highway but so well tucked away.
