Lotus Surf House

Originally booked for just one night because wanted to check out, whether this is solid base for my long surf trip in Sri Lanka. And it sure is! So will be spending 6 weeks here. The room is nicer than in the pictures and has all you need to enjoy your time in Midigama. Beds are nice and firm! Second floor terrace is perfect for chilling and has nice long table for remote working. WLAN is easily fast enough for video calls. 3min walk from Lazy left surf spot, and couple good restaurants just 2 minutes away. Yellum and his family are really good people, and always happy to help you out!

Nothing really to complain! Maybe could use better pictures in Booking.com, to really show how nice this place actually is. AND bring your earplugs with you, if you don't like the noise of a train while sleeping. Its running close by, but that is the case in all coastal Sri Lanka. (cant really say whether it runs at night or just early mornings, because I always sleep with earplugs anyway.)

Charming little hotel , Yelum is developing his own dream so good to stay and support him and his family. Basic clean accommodation, I stayed in off season so very quiet. Surfed everyday in Weligama with Yelum taxing me around in his awesome vintage Tuk Tuk and sightseeing for turtles and Galle Fort not far away.

No aircon can be hot if hot at night.

Yellum and his father were very heartfelt, welcoming and courteous. The room was clean and had everything we needed. The hostel is a 2min walk from the beach and is in the middle of the trees. You can enjoy that best on the rooftop terace.

The train station is pretty much right next to the hostel. We weren't bothered at all because we got up early in the morning, bit some people might be. Apart from that, everything was perfect :)

I liked the rooftop and the good breakfast. The owner gave me good tips for my journey and was very nice. The price was very good and nit expansive. The bed room and bathroom had everything that I needed and was clean. Met some nice visitors there.

An absoloute gem. Lotus achieves a rural setting for you to laze away the hours between surfs in a hammock listening to the sounds of the jungle and quiet Midigama. All while being a 2 minute walk from the water at Lazy Lefts and Rights. Yelum and his father are two of the most genuine and welcoming people I have ever met and they couldn’t do more to make you stay easy and introduce you to authentic Sri Lankan culture. Whether it be learning to make rotti and coconut sambul with Yelums mum using fresh spices from her garden or playing Korum over a few beers in the evening, this place is a paradise. Rooms are spacious and clean and the breakfast options are deicious. We became addicted to the best cocunut rotti and Sambol in Sri Lanka but the yoghurts, oats and fresh fruit is great after a dawn surf session. The location is also convenient if you want to go out in ahangama or Weligama and look for hipster coffee, smashed avo on toast etc. (we did a couple of times, only 5 - 10 min tuk-tuk rides respectively but always found ourselves comming back to the authentic solitude of Lotus. Surfing wise you can also walk to rams in 5 mins or Plabtation/ coconuts in 10 mins. Board racks, storage for your birds if you want to head in to the interior for a few days, ping pong and a kitchen stocked with tea and coffee. Yelum also invited us to the local temple to partake in Buddhist full moon celebrations and alms giving. As you can tell, we really didn’t want to leave.
