Barrocas do Mar

We were in T0 at the top. The view of the sunrise in the morning is spectacular! Very complete apartment with everything you need, good amount of parking space. Really recommend the restaurant Tasca in the village. Very easy check in and check out process , thanks to Paulo. Great value for money.

Quite humid but fine once you air the apartment out. The shower leaks.

The kitchen is really well equipped! Cats come around asking for food and scratches.

It smells a bit like an old cellar and is a bit humid...

The one-bedroom apartment is located on the ground floor and is easy to reach. The apartment is fully equipped and very comfortable for a couple or, as in my case, me and my daughter. The king-size bed is super comfy and everything was super clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with a washing machine, coffee machine, toaster, microwave, oven, etc. The view is one of the highlights of the apartment, as you are facing S. Jorge Island with wonderful sun and moon-rises.

Nothing of note. If anything, the apartment is a little bit far from the main town (S. Roque), but that assures the quiet.

Lovely view of the coast, the kitchen was kitted out very well. It was great to have laundry facilities. The apartment was very clean.

Minor points. It would have been nice to have a table and chairs out of the sun for eating meals outside. Would be better if the windows in bathroom had obscured glass rather than having to close the blind.Mattress could be improved.

Amazing view, clean and nice apartment with a great hot tub. Sunrise view over Sao Jorge in the summer. Overall great apartment. We stayed in the top apartment, T0.

Nothing, just be aware of location ~40 min from Madalena, the main town. However, there is a nice restaurant and swimming area just below the apartment which is wonderful.

We travelled Azores for 2,5 weeks and had 5 accommodations on 4 different islands. I can definitely say this one was the best! The view is magnificent, the apartment is spacious (we had T2 - 2 separate bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large open kitchen and living, terrace etc), very clean and equipped with everything you need (including washing machine and dryer - shared and dishwasher - a huge difference for me). All rooms have their own AC - not really needed at night, it was enough to open them only for a couple of hours in the evening when we returned. It’s a quiet and remote area - plan carefully to take supplies on your way to accommodation or to eat before.. there is nothing available (shops or restaurants walking distance). We preferred to shop on our way (HiperCais in Sao Roque is ok) and cook our dinners to be able to enjoy the place and the view more. We did not use the shared jacuzzi, but it looked really nice. There are 2 cats wondering around - we enjoyed their presence, fed them and played. However, if you are not a cat person, make sure you close the doors at all times - they are used to entering the house😊

Nothing really to complain. Maybe it would be nice to welcome guests with some basic supplies like milk, eggs, cheese, bread etc (even with an extra charge that I would be happy to pay). Or at least warn them to get supplies on the way, especially if they are arriving late. There are no options nearby and it is really an unpleasant surprise to realize you need to drive again… that steep slope is something I really wanted to avoid doing more than once daily😊

First to be clear: our review concerns the apartment T1 on the ground floor, as all the apartments under 'Barrocas do Mar' look quite different. What a strange apartment this is! The entrance is a window door, which immediately gives out on your bed, so you always pass through your sleeping room to enter the kitchen/living room. Apart from that, there is a very small uncomfortable bathroom. In fact, all the basic equipment is available, but the whole space looks clinical and has no charm. Take into account that you have almost no privacy: you do not have a terrace. There is only a small sitting space in front of your entrance door, overlooking the ocean, all other people passing by. When we arrived, we found a small pvc bench, but no further outdoor amenities. As on holidays, one desires to sit outside to take dinner and breakfast, we fixed a very small rectangular table from inside to put our glasses on. The first day when we awoke, there were working men circling around the apartment, we saw them running up and down along our windows. Until suddenly upon our having breakfast outside, the owner came asking us if we minded them coming inside, as they planned to install solar panels and they needed to handle the electricity in our room. We felt very much annoyed by this during us renting the room, we were there in pyjama's and even had not taken a shower. Anyway, after we explained our disagreement(you do not want to be disturbed this way during your holidays!) they disappeared and in the evening upon our return, we found 2 extra chairs and a table outside, which we appreciated. Due to the nice ocean view, the equipment, the large bed and refrigerator, and the overall cleanliness (apart from a burnt cooking pot and a broken flower pot outside), we still give this apartment a 7 out of 10, but generally spoken, it was not our cup of tea.

The view, location and tranquillity of the flat are very good. The kitchen was well equipped and the check-in was flexible.

There were several large areas of mould in both the room and the bathroom. You could smell this when you walked in. Regardless of the price, this is something that absolutely has to be rectified. I would therefore not book or recommend the accommodation again.
