The Hostal is very nice for everybody who wants a nice and quite room for a days. Its location is very good. In front of a park and just behind the corners you find restaurants and bars.

"Nice and Smart"

6.0

Overall its a well designed space, nice to have always Coffee available, and a really nice balcony upstairs. The neighbourhood its charming and with lot of nice caffès around. I would say its a good alternative for who wants a more calm stay in Medellin.

In fact the rooms are very small, and very warm. Was excepting for a bit more of privacy but i think the experience is not super far from being in a dorm. The wall are very thin so you can listen everything that happens on the room next door. We had some friends stayinf the the double bed suit, was looking way nicer.

"Very good"

8.0

Very good location, close to the action but opposite a little park and quiet. Very modern facilities. I felt very safe there.

For the first few nights I booked the single ensuite room but it was so small and with only an interior window, I felt claustrophobic (and I'm only 5' 2") so moved to the room with a bunk bed and exterior window which was much more comfortable.

So clean, especially the shared bathrooms. Nice design, spacious hallways / common areas, barefoot feeling, beautiful painting. Rooms for every kind of budget.

Long online Check-In process (had to do it 4 times). Code for front door in the welcome mail is wrong.

"Complicated check in at a pleasant place . . ."

8.0

I stayed alone in room 11, upstairs at the front of the property. Altogether I payed a little over US$30 for it, a bit more than I was used to during my three week stay in Colombia, but still quite economical for a larger city. It had a large, king sized bed, a nice, small table with lamp and chair, an on-suite bathroom, and a window overlooking the tree lined Primer Parque across the street. I enjoyed the pleasant view and it wasn't at all noisy despite being in the city. The small desk table was nice to have to use my computer. There were multiple outlets to charge devices. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The decor is sleek and minimal, but it could use some area rugs as the floor is all bare concrete. Some plants in the room might also help give the space some life and warmth. For the price, a flat screen TV would have been nice, as it's customary in most of the other affordable rooms I stayed in during my stay in the country. The bathroom and shower were nicely tiled, modern, with a large shower head, although there wasn't anywhere to hang one's clothes or towel. There was plenty of hot water. The hotel is located in a pleasant, safe area of the city. There are plenty of restaurants/eateries in the area, plus an upscale market that would rival any Whole Foods store in the US, with all kinds of imported products and a deli and bakery. There is a large, open internet cafe/restaurant next door, so this place is perfect for internet nomads. The staff and especially Ronald were very kind and helpful. I had an extremely late flight back to the US (1:20 am) the following evening, but they allowed me to store my luggage at checkout in the morning, and hang out in the lounge and balcony area upstairs in the evening after I was done touring the city. They even told me I could shower if I wanted to before catching my rides to the airport later that night. Very nice . . .

The thing I liked the least about the hostal was the check in procedure. Arriving after a long trip from Popayan the last thing one wants to deal with is a complicated check in process. First, the property is not the easiest to find. There is no signage outside that I can remember, so taxi drivers need exact address. Once there, there is an outer gate that has a small latch on the inside to get in, and then the main door to enter the hotel. The owner and manager will email you the code of the lock of the main door to enter the day of your check-in, so make sure to read your messages before arrival. Once inside you have to log online, click on the link the owner/manager sent you, and fill out your personal information which is as comprehensive as the customs forms when arriving in the country! (passport #, home address, etc). After that there is another link to fill out your payment information. For me, the payment link did not work. It refused my card, despite the fact that I'd been using my card throughout my three week stay in Colombia. I was told that this sometimes happens with the link. They had to send another person 15 minutes later with a hand held card reader, which thankfully worked. The whole check-in process took over 30 minutes to get through and is highly impersonal, and it's the last thing one wants to deal after arriving from a long trip. I understand the owner/manager wants to streamline the process and make it all digital, but that is merely for HIS convenience, definitely not convenient for guests! I presume it's to assure that payment is immediate and secure. It goes straight to his bank account, and no staff has to handle the money. It would have been much faster and personal if check in had been the traditional way of simply writing one's information on a ledger and paying the staff upon check in or even check out like is customary in most other places in Colombia.
