Long Crendon Manor B&B

It is absolutely stunning. My partner was blown away, he had expected a regular B&B :). The room(s) we had booked were beautiful, very spacious shower, separate dressing room, very characterful. The dining room where we ate breakfast was wonderful and the gentleman running the place, whose name I’ve sadly forgotten, was delightful

It is a beautiful and unique antique house. We were incredibly impressed by the kindness and hospitality of the hosts. There is something very special and beautiful about the rooms. It was a wonderful breakfast.

We were disappointed with the size of the bed (it was not a king size as requested). Only part of the heating system was working in the room, which was very cold. In particular, I was surprised to discover that there was only a bath without a shower, making it impossible to take a shower. Furthermore, there was little hot water available in the morning. For what you receive, the facility is very expensive.

In our experience the authentic Country House Experience doesn’t get better than this. Our cavernous medieval bedroom, being lulled to sleep in a Georgian antique four poster bed to the crackling of a log woodburner, the thin winter morning sunlight highlighting the intricate carvings on the ancient oak bedroom furniture. One bedroom window afforded a view of the lawn extending to the acreage beyond the ha ha, 2 enormous (friendly and very clean hounds) romping on the grass, another looked over the 12th century arched entrance dating back beyond the ownership of the brave William Marshal. A guest sitting room with a grand piano, plenty of books, puzzles and tourist information, a delicious breakfast and a historical tour by our hosts who also kept us entertained with tales of the extensive filming carried out at the house. It is remarkable to find such a large estate within a pretty village in walking distance of several excellent pubs serving gourmet evening meals, and we were also a short drive from interesting and thankfully untouristy villages such as Brill, Bicester, Thame and Princes Risborough as well as Waterperry Gardens. We found Old Crendon Manor via our Historic Houses Assn handbook and feel encouraged to experience some more historic B&Bs.
