"Amazing!"

10.0

We got married at The Walnut Tree on Friday 19th June. The venue is beautiful, the team are outstanding and we literally couldn’t fault a thing. The food is incredible, the garden area is amazing and we totally lucked out with the sunshine! We would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone. The rooms are also beautiful! We feel like we have made genuine friends for life. All of the team are amazing but a special shout out to Nicky, Fraser and Millie who have been incredible and go way above and beyond to ensure your day is special.

"Good and bad"

6.0

The room (3) was small and grey with cheap furniture. The bed was okay but the pillows were thin and uncomfortable. They had to be folded in half to be of any use. The shower room was okay but the shower itself was feeble. It is an old railway hotel with an interesting history which includes the Victorian raliway and some interesting John Peel rock and roll stories from the 70s. It's well worth reading about. Unfortunately, while the station is closed, the main line railway still runs 50 metres or so from the hotel. During the day fast trains pass every 10 minutes or so but it does become less at night. With earplugs it did not affect my sleep and the trains do make the building shake but it's not very much and I did not find it a problem once I was used to it. Packs of cheap disposable earplugs in the rooms might be a good idea. The light was a problem. Light comes in from lights outside and in the corridor, so the room is never dark. From dawn it's like daylight. The curtains are very thin and almost useless. This affected my sleep more. Blackout curtains would solve this, and reduce the noise from the trains. It's a small thing that would make a big difference, and they would pay for themselves with heat insulation. The restaurant is a nice environment and breakfast was excellent with a decent butcher's sausage, back bacon, and very tasty mushrooms professionally and unobtrusively served. There is much that is good about The Walnut Tree, with a couple of significant issues that could be mitigated for.

"Very disappointing"

5.0

My expectations were high and I liked the hotel location.

Noisey railway line. Carpets are thread bare and need replacing. The duvet is too small for the bed. No airconditioning on a hot night. Evening meal options were limited to burgers and Pizza. Breakfast was VERY basic. Staff shortages meant the staff were running everywhere to cover staff absence.
