The Royal Oak Pub

Lovely pub with rooms above - comfortable beds, good shower pressure, delicious pub meals and friendly staff. We were a big fan of the Fell Brewery beers! Lovely spot to spend a few nights.

Location in Cartmel.

No food available in the evening (race day) No breakfast available had to order breakfast at the Priory hotel opposite which was good. No staff available in the morning.

The location couldn't have been better! Right on the square, handy to walk everywhere in town. The staff, Ruth, Fred, Harvey (and another lady who I didn't catch her name) were all very hospitable and friendly. Ruth managed to fit us in for food before it got really busy and it was some of the best pub food we've had! The room was comfortable, I feel it was a little pricey but we now know that it was because Cartmell races were on and it's the biggest race of the year - we had no idea! Looking at prices for other times of the year, I think they're more reasonable so I put it down to this.

Very small things to suggest: 1) more milk with the coffee making facilities 2) a shelf in the bathroom for our toiletries 3) a tv in the room would be nice
