Very helpful housekeeper Juliet

Tired state of property, about to close for refurbishment. Obviously no repairs done, so there was a broken towel rail, walk in shower had very poor drainage.

bed was comfy and all linen was very clean beer garden very pretty

Breakfast too late for us at the weekend as we had to leave before it was served. nowhere to leave keys when we left at 740. Rooms noisy as next to beer garden so noisy until guests left. mould in the bathroom. window frosting partially removed leaving no privacy as ground floor room. TV had black line across the screen when switched on - giving poor viewing. Room costs expensive for quality. Food was appalling. Scotch egg not cooked through. first order of one meal returned as not was what was requested. Beefburger returned as undercooked. returned a second time as still pink in the middle and i was told -'we serve them medium and you didn't ask for it to be well done.' starter requested as main course took more than a hour to be served and had to be chased on more than one occasion . we were asked if we wanted dessert and said yes. the waitress said she would return - but didn't, and when we asked at he bar we were told the kitchen had closed. we requested a 50% discount ( less the wine - which was excellent quality- and this was refused. 20% was offered. we declined and there was no flexibility so we had to request that the manager was called at home. An usual reduction was made resulting in us paying £19 each - which was still too much considering the quality of what had been provided.

A spacious and well-equipped room. The breakfast was cooked to order and the staff member serving it was particularly friendly and helpful.

"Great location, friendly and helpul staff."

8.0

The room was well equipped and the bed was very large and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order and excellent. The staff were very helpful on arrival and at breakfast the following day. The location was ideal for the centre and the bus was just a short walk away. There was plenty of parking and they were happy for us to leave it there when we checked out on Sunday to go and explore the botanical gardens.

A lovely old building that in places is a little tired.
