The Cross Inn

What an absolutely lovely place! Heptonstall is a beautiful small village, so very British. The Cross Inn is THE place to stay, be it for a stopover or for a few days, as we did. Recommended! Beautiful location, nice, spacious, clean rooms, lovely pub, and the biggest bonus of all: the food. Not only does the lovely lady make you a perfect breakfast (the most delicious free range eggs I've had in ages), she's also responsible for those beautiful Thai meals - and she'll be happy to share her secret for cooking the perfect rice. If you stay here, you should have one of the delicious Thai dishes at least one. My advice: just have your evening meal here every day, you won't regret it! For lunches, there is a lovely tearoom just around the corner.

Lovely pub stay, with exceptionally friendly staff, especially for a lone traveller. The food here is great, the single room is generously equipped and spacious, with a nice hot shower

It is a pub, so if you're a light sleeper, expect a bit of noise until ~11pm

It was a little further than expected from Hebdon bridge, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The overall hotel is in need of some money spent on it as it is looking tired. A small job that could make a real difference would be to weed the front of the hotel and some colourful plants to make it more welcoming.

The room was large and clean, with quirky, artistic decor which we loved. The bar had a great larger and beer selection, and the food looked incredible, although we didn't get a chance to eat this time due to pre-arranged plans. The location is wonderful; the village itself is worth exploring, and is close to Hebden Bridge which we really enjoyed. We were also able to get the bus to Piece Hall in Halifax for a gig we were attending, although it's a good idea to plan ahead as one of the buses got cancelled just as it was due to arrive (we ended up walking down to town, which is lovely in the summer, but that might not be an accessible option for everyone).

The room we were in was on the street side, and as it was hot we had the windows open, so we did get disturbed by a surprising amount of footfall late at night. Of course this isn't something that can be avoided, just worth noting if you're looking for somewhere peaceful. The breakfast ends at 10:00 which is the same time as checkout; it would be great if checkout was even half an hour later. I do think the price is a little bit high, especially considering breakfast is continental, but I know that hospitality across the country is struggling with the current economical climate.

We only stayed one night, what would have been helpful was a mention that on Mondays they don't serve food and the place shuts at 8.30 . I booked 3 rooms .we all went to our rooms at 9 . I wish that imformation had been on the website very disappointing .

Room was lovely and clean

Disappointed it was a continental breakfast although there was good offerings. The shower was terrible really powerful but doesn't sit right in the holder so sprays fast at an awkward angle wet the bathroom through and I couldnt wash my hair as I had to hold the shower head. Didn't realise it was up a massive hill with no parking. Wouldn't stay again
