GBVery friendly,staff very hard working and accommodating, proper community pub.The room was clean and bed very comfortable. The shared facilities ie kitchen and shower /wc were clean and well stocked. The bar snacks good value and bar prices reasonable.The rooms were soundproofed against outside traffic and Castle party noise. Really appreciated the accommodation of our puppy Brilliant self service breakfast; enjoyed porridge,honey,toast real butter,my favourite roses lime marmalade and tea and coffee facilities. You can also take your bar meals and drinks to your room where you have a small table and chairs.There is a lovely post office and cafe shop 10 yards away,though no hot food on a Sunday. Cawood Castle and Garth pasture has a lovely walk/ pathway minutes away. Overall this is a rough "diamond" of a pub with a healthy local "social club" environment,run by wonderful ,dedicated staff,which makes this facility great value for money. Thank you.
The facilities are dated and the stone flooring exposed and uneven in the sports bar,first floor landing is badly stained and run down the landlady admitted it was in need of refurbishment.There was no live sports channels due to cancellation,even though advertised. The other guest,whom I suspected attended the karaoke, 60 th birthday party,attempted three times to open our room door at 3.00am in the morning, clearly hung over and disorientated and I had to shout "wrong room mate" which he quickly realised his error and apologised. He then quickly fell asleep in his room opposite and loudly snored for the next 5 hours!! Which we could of done without!
GBI Can't fault It. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. The magic table lamp was cool. The use of the kitchenette was handy for me.
If I were to nitpick the floor was creaky and the door also creaky. But that's just me trying to be conscious of not disturbing others.
GBNo mention was made of the fact that more than adequate breakfast food is provided - for free. The kitchen was equipped to prepare anything. The stout (5.5%), was superb, and only £4:30. 16th October, and the central heating was on; plus an electric fire. I had the room overlooking the front, after the ukulele practice left (6:30), was nice and quiet.
Kitchen was a mess. I tidied it up thinking punters had left it so, but it was the owners ! Loud, yappy "Lulu", a poodle in need of some "mentoring". Not en suite - the toilet itself was some way off. Lots of DIY jobs (mainly minor), not attended to. Parking is VERY limited.
GBLandlady, very friendly. Staff too. Room comfortable, good night's sleep. Breakfast make yourself.
Car parking cancelled be a problem in the village.
GBLandlady was amazing. Really enjoyed our stay at the Jolly Sailor. Great atmosphere. Just what we wanted and well looked after.
Room was a bit dusty but we didn't mind.
