Staff were friendly and helpful, beds very comfy and the room was quiet. Very easy access to centre of Durham. Parking was handy.

Such a lovely atmosphere in the pub. Chatted to a few people. The room was so comfortable and clean. Perfect base for exploring Durham.

Very noisy on main road and single glazing. Room in attic was boiling hot. No shower or shower hose over bath

The bedrooms were spotlessly clean, tea and coffee (& biscuits!) supply plentiful, decent power-showers, the staff were all friendly and the owner - Michael - went above and beyond. Free parking on the premises so close to the compact centre of Durham is a real plus. The rooms are above one of Durham's two top CAMRA-listed real ale pubs if that's your fancy - and Michael is also the overseer of a huge range of whiskies if that's also your tipple. The local drinkers - from students to cards & games players to "mature" guests are all friendly - it's a no-frills pub with a great atmosphere. We loved it.

Everything we wanted. No negative points

The landlord was exceptionally helpful and amusing. For the price, the room was perfectly adequate. The location was perfect for visiting the town.

Staff were kind and helpful, location good, room was comfortable. If the description mentioned it was above a pub I missed it but little noise, a good thing.

The only annoying feature was a tacky dispenser for squares of poor quality toilet paper. I thought the world had disposed of those things long ago but now we know where they are.
