The location was great! Layout and style of room also nice

I might have misread, but was expecting a kitchen and there wasn't one. That didn't impact our stay too much in the end however.

"Nice early season getaway at a reasonable price in a space with character"

Nice to have a living room. Nice touches with artwork. Also nice that rooms are not perfectly square.

Would prefer a sink in the kitchen area but I realize it is difficult.

"Nice stay despite an odd layout"

8.0

The property is really conveniently located and within easy walking distance of shopping, restaurants, spas, and even a mansion or two. Mini splits kept rooms comfortable. Everything was pretty clean, beds were comfortable, and the kitchen was well-stocked with supplies. It was quiet in the evenings, but we were also there in early May so it wasn't high season.

The second floor units are up a very steep flight of stairs so you won't want to be carrying too much up and down. Layout of the unit we rented (#17) was very odd. You enter into a small living room area and the first full bathroom is accessed from one corner of the room. You go through another doorway to enter the King bedroom, and you have to walk through that bedroom and down a couple of steps to access the Queen bedroom, which also includes a sitting area. There is, at least, a door that you can close between the two bedrooms for some privacy at night. Attached to the Queen room is the spiral staircase (which is really sturdy and not some cheap rickety piece) leading down to the kitchen area and the second tiny full bath. This second shower is *really* small. Overall, just kind of a weird flow. Communication with the hosts was a little confusing. It seemed like some answers might've been automated, but occasionally a real person would respond and the answers didn't necessarily align, LOL. Nothing major, but for instance I got a message from the host on arrival day that we could check in at anytime since the unit was ready. But I had also received emails earlier that early check ins came with a fee so I asked for clarification. What I assume was the automated response said "yes, early check in is a paid option," and included a link for payment; but half an hour later the real person responded with "no, the early check in fee will not apply." Parking onsite is first come, first served and wasn't a problem for us as we seemed to be the only guests while we were there. However, there isn't a lot of clarity about how to access what I was told was an alternative free lot option on Oak St. It was "by request" and I was told to message the hosts upon arrival if I needed a spot there. Not sure what I was meant to do with the car while I waited for a response.

"It’s not what they claim it to be… quite disappointing."

1.0

The owners were responsive and available. They maintained good communication. The other positive aspect to this place was the location. It’s as central as you could get.

I was very disappointed with my stay. My biggest complaint was the noise. The walls are paper thin and I was kept up by a dog barking in the room next door and you could hear basic conversations from room to room. What was even worse was that it’s such an old, rickety place that I got woken up by squeaking and stomping whenever anyone above me walked around. My second biggest complaint is that there was no AC in the bedroom. When I asked the owners about that they said that the split level in the sitting area covers the whole space but it definitely didn’t keep it cool or have a fan to feel like air is moving. It also meant that to get any AC you had to keep the bedroom door open. Personally, I need all doors shut when I sleep (and I really did not like that the bedroom door was glass and see through, offering no privacy). The jacuzzi tub that they highlight was nice and big but the jacuzzi part of it didn’t work. The electric fire place didn’t work either. Parking was a headache and if you didn’t get one of the three spots on site, you have a to park a few blocks away - which is especially challenging if you are lugging luggage to and from your car. They also claim that they have high quality linens but the sheets on the bed felt like the same rough white sheets you find at any other hotel. I also was very put off by how they wanted to charge by the hour for early check in or late check out. For a place that is so expensive and trying to appear luxurious in a very old building, it is poor taste to nickel and dime you like that. There also seemed to be an ant problem which didn’t make it feel as clean as it looked. All in all, they market themselves well but it feels like there was a lot of false advertising or at least advertising that makes them look much better than they are. Maybe if I got better sleep I would have felt more positively about the experience but being kept up late and woken up early really ruined the experience for me.
