The Black Bull Inn and Hotel

Room was lovely and clean bathroom good size. Breakfast was really good with good choice.

Mattress was uncomfortable.

Loved the location, staff were very friendly and accommodating. There is a brewery attached to the pub, which meant good ales served in the pub. Breakfast was superb and plenty of it.

Like most hotels in the Lake District, it was overpriced, in my opinion. My biggest gripe was our room (Room 12) had a street light directly opposite the window. I'm a person who finds it difficult to sleep with any light in the room, so it wasn't a good night sleep for me. My wife seemed to cope OK with it. Unfortunately, this was something we only realised when we went to bed and the staff had all gone home. The next day, I suggested to the staff that blackout curtains or blinds should be used. The irony is we were the only guests staying that night. Had we known earlier, they could have moved us to any room in the hotel. I'm sure the other rooms are fine.

Staff very friendly and accommodating. Cosy ld fashioned style pub with good old fashioned hospitality. Great vibe right in main road opposite other pub so very social. Room basic but charming and great shower.

For the price paid breakfast was very basic and lacked choice. Just the bare minimum and some of what was displayed in basic menu wasn’t available. Although service was with a smile and very friendly it was a bit chaotic and scatty! Bed was uncomfortable so not much sleep! Think mattress totally failed as it was only about 2” thick when laid in bed! Very moist late evening and yes I can accept it’s a pub but the scraping of chairs and tables and tables at the end of the night totally unnecessary and noisy for residents trying to wind down or go to sleep.

Breakfasts were comprehensive and freshly cooked to order. Staff were cheerful and friendly. The hotel is well situated in the centre of the town, as Coniston is small it’s easy to reach the other shops etc. Walkers have no need to travel but can walk out onto the nearby fells.

Location great. Pub was great with awesome beers and food was good. The steak with peppercorn sauce was perfect.

One of the rooms was a little small, the other was just right.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was quite large (not sure if they are all like that) with a great view. I was there for a race, so needed to come and go at odd times, and this was not a problem. Would definitely stay there again if I was in the area.

The only thing I would have liked was some information in the room (wifi password, if WiFi was available, I never got to the bottom of that, and 4G signal strength was quite poor - but then it is the Lake District after all), and breakfast times. They did tell me the latter piece of information at check-in, but with everything going on, I had totally forgotten.
