Uvita Pirates Hostel

The room had an AC and a private bathroom with warm water. The kitchen was adequately equipped, and the hosts always offered their help with everything.

The two hosts who live downstairs drink beers and smoke cigarettes all day, making the overall vibes unwelcoming (definitely not what I consider pura vida). The dirty dishes were left in the kitchen for days, and the whole hostel was dirty. We had many cockroaches in our room on the first day. Besides being dirty, a lot of things are broken. One of the floorboards on the upstairs patio had come off and was simply placed back (photo attached); my girlfriend nearly fell through it.

Avoid this place if drunk loud men make you feel unsafe and uncomfortable. The only thing we liked was that the drunk owners of the place left the property at night around 9pm after we told them we needed to sleep early - but they were drunk when we got there and got more and more drunk as the evening progressed, making lots of noise and getting louder and louder before they left. Their friend who came to pick them up was very drunk, driving drunk and was talking nonsense really loudly while waiting for them. They made it feel extremely unsafe.

Some of the pictures were old and the property does not look like that any more. It actually looks more run down and and not presentable at all. We arrived around 7pm and the owners son met us. He was friendly and polite, but clearly drunk. Which made my girlfriend very uncomfortable. We dropped our bags and went out for dinner. When we returned, the owner and his son both met us and were a lot drunker than earlier. And talking really loudly. The rooms are not sound proof and you can hear everything from everywhere. The place is extremely basic and the kitchen was a complete mess. The fridge looked like it hadn't been emptied or cleaned in at least a year so all sorts of food left by previous guests was rotting away in the fridge. We booked for 3 nights and left after one - we would have left that night but by 9:30pm it was too late to find somewhere else. We wrote to the owners to explain the situation, and told them we would happily pay for the one night but they cancelled the entire booking- probably because they didn't want me to leave an honest review. We never received a reply from the owner. They were just extremely unprofessional - which is a shame as it really has potential to be a good place to stay if you're on a budget. When we left we forgot a charger and travel adapter - we returned 15-20 minutes later the drunk owners had not returned from their night but the cleaner was in the room cleaning - our travel adapter was missing - presumably the cleaner took it and when we asked her she denied all knowledge. So even having your room cleaned when you are staying there is probably unsafe.

The owners are very helpful, ready to help you in whatever you would need for a perfect stay in Uvita. Situated a 1 min walk from the beach

The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful. Located near the beach and a couple of restaurants.

The hosts are two top blokes living their best live, pura vida. Realy friendly and let us use the room way past check out time for a shower.
