The Waverley Hotel

Old outdated hotel in serious need of a referb reminded us of an old people's home and smelt of one aswell

The hotel bathroom was in a terrible state. The shower head was covered in rust . There were brown marks on the toilet roll holder . The shower was falling apart and the bathroom radiator was covered in dust. The seating in the bedroom was all ripped .

What a smashing hotel. Stayed here with a coach group, and it certainly was a positive experience. Met by the manager on arrival, welcomed everyone in, resturaurt manager again excellent. Evening meals were of a good standard and all home cooked, well organised with each table being called up to save too much standing about. Breakfast again was of a good standard. Rooms have all that you need and are clean and serviced during your stay. Entertainment on two evenings to add to a well priced break. Great value for money

Needs to improve its security and food First impressions very good on the surface, all clean, appeared freshly refurbished and tastefully furnished, employees very attentive and friendly. Our room was similarly presented, with dated furniture design and beds very comfortable. Sliding door to bathroom (en suite) but no locking facility. The strip light over the sink mirror was not working, shower over the bath, but lacking a support handle on the side wall to assist safe stepping into the bath, especially for ageing old crock like me! The major problem was the door did not lock when the door was closed! Yes you could lock from the inside the room, plus a safety latch had been fitted, but when leaving the room the key card had to be used as much as three times on one occasion before the internal locking mechanism operated. Reported this to the reception first thing next morning, still had not been fixed four days later when we signed out, just excuses every day, a new internal battery fitted which had made no difference! Whilst I had locked the room after we left on the excursions every day by repeatedly using the key card to operate the mechanism, the housekeeping had been in to service the room (day before we left) yet failed to check the door had locked behind them! Having left our Ipads in the room, in our luggage obviously, luckily still where we had left them… Needless to say we were not “happy bunnies|” Meals, another experience… Tables all set out for four people, (a plus as far as coach parties being catered for), all designated a number and called up to the buffet serving counter in turn to be quickly served proficiently by five of the staff in a line…worked very well and impressive, another plus point in fact. The food however was their greatest downfall… breakfasts satisfactory though bacon needed a steak knife to cut, wafer thin and broke up instead. Evening meals, limited choice each evening from a very small menu and not very appetising. In fact many of us skipped the evening meal and ate out locally or during the day whilst on an excursion. NB meals as usual again on coach holidays costed miserly for want of a better word… Leaving after breakfast on Friday and wishing to show gratitude to the restaurant staff, I went back to the serving area to find a box for gratuities sitting on a dividing partition surrounded by the restaurant staff as if standing guard…! Made my contribution and “thank you’s” and left. Overall would not go back or use “Just Go” travel again.

The room had a few nice touches to it like a bottle of water provided and also a fan if needed and digital alarm clock beside the bed. Location was ideal for the seafront and attractions. Check inn was very easy and polite member of staff.

Room was a little small but i did ask for a single room so just a minor thing.
