Milsoms Kesgrave Hall

The room and bathroom in terms of design and layout was good. (Unbearable heat aside!). Staff were friendly and welcoming. Grounds are good. Location is OK - good proximity to Woodbridge.

The restaurant layout, furniture, noise levels (as lack of soft furnishings etc) is just shocking. We were seated next to another couple, but crammed in. We ended up cancelling our meal there and traveling to Woodbridge. Milsoms catered our wedding so I am sure the food would have been great. But the atmosphere was terrible. (This for a 645ish dinner). The room was unbelievably hot, it may have had the sun on it all day - I'm unsure - but genuinely outside was 5c and inside the room even with the window open and a fan on full blast it was over 20c easily. There were bright lights outside the window so we couldn't have the curtains open to let the cold air in fully. So uncomfortable we made the decision to leave at 130am in the morning as live fairly local but fancied an evening away / dinner / hotel etc. I was so surprised and disappointed. It wasn't expensive to stay there, but nonetheless still a massive waste of money. I will not be recommending this hotel / restaurant to friends or family. I did message the hotel when we left, but have still to yet receive a response.

I think if you are staying at the hotel and having a treatment you should have free access to the spa area…..otherwise everything was very good value.

So, we were expecting a nice experience as Kesgrave is a classy hotel. But when we were upgraded to the largest room in the house, we were very grateful and felt very special. It was our 40th wedding anniversary the day we stayed, and it was almost as good as the day I married! We also booked an accessible room for my elderly mother on the ground floor and the staff were extremely helpful in arranging this for her. It was perfect for her needs. Our room was amazing, words cannot describe. Lots of art and quirkyness but functional and comfortable. Breakfast was great and again the staff were very accommodating for my sister's 60th birthday on the morning of our checking out - we had a party of 7 staying overnight after a private dining meal the day before at the hotel. Our meal for my sister's birthday, whilst hand-selected by her, was amazing and again he staff were so helpful and attentive. Party of around 20 people in total. For a special occasion, or any day of the week you want to treat yourself, Kesgrave is the place.

In the suite we stayed, I would recommend a light or illuminated strip under the step from the main living/bedroom area into the hand basin and toilet area. The shower unit (walk in) was in a separate part of the room on the right. At night, we left the light over the hand basins (mirror light) on as we were worried about getting up in the night and tripping over up the step. The light could be a sensor, activated by movement.

The setting is lovely with lots of green areas, beautiful trees and, when we visited, carpets of bluebells in a woodland area. The food was very nice and the lounge and outside area very attractive. The room was spacious and had lovely high ceilings.

The staff are friendly and helpful, but the waiting staff need some more training.
