The staff are friendly and the hotel has character.

The hotel is in a lovely spot but tired in places and could do with a refresh, overall its pleasant and good value for money.

A decent location in the town centre within an easy walking distance of the railway stn. The public areas were pleasant. Breakfast and indeed evening meals were good.

Primarily being rudely awaken by an intruder trying to break into my room at 5am in the morning; I had to ring reception for someone to come and remove the ne'er do well. Obviously the hotel security needs improving. The hotel has no air-con so in hot weather the windows need opening for ventilation but that lets in the street noise. Not being able to turn off the heated towel rail in the bathroom seems ridiculous in hot weather. The bedroom needs redecorating and a new carpet.

"We were very disappointed and couldn't wait to leave"

4.0

The breakfast was good and we enjoyed our meal we had in the evening of our arrival. The staff were very helpful, polite and efficient.

We felt that the property needed a full scale renovation. We felt the property was very tired in its appearance and would benefit from quite a considerable amount of money spent on it. I hope that these comments will be passed onto to the CEO of Greene King and CK Asset holdings as it has clearly been neglected by them and appear to be unaware of the property's condition.

"Staff & food good, room in definate need of refurb"

5.0

The staff were lovely, very happy and informative. Food was good and enjoyable. There was a fan in the room which was a godsend!

The rooms are extremely dated, and in my opinion in desperate need of a refurb, the decor is very tired and worn. Bathroom had a strong urine smell, carpet/chairs very stained and past their best. Definitely wasn’t worth £100 for 1 night.

"We had a great time and shall definitely stay again at The Bell Inn for Thetford tournaments"

9.0

Free parking, free wifi that was easy to access and enabled us to use both or our computers and phones, nice room and comfortable bed, all clean and welcoming, there's a nice atmosphere about the place and the people. The surroundings are lovely, with the excellent Red Lion (Wetherspoon) a short pedestrianized walk away, and The Carnegie almost next to it (a theatre, venue for the internationally-rated chess tournament in which we were competing).

We would have liked another chair, but I'm sure we could have asked for one. Really there is nothing you could knock from our point of view. We liked the homely well-worn furniture as it's an old place and felt just right, though we know there are some people who want everything new new new who might have been a bit sniffy. It was warm weather and the window doesn't open very wide, but we were comfortable and both had a very good night's sleep, vital for chess players!
