Taverna Akrogiali

Very quiet place in a very quiet beach (pebbly). Superb host, Paulos aided by Hussein. Food was great.

Shower temperature was Luke warm at best. Was reliant on solar heating I guess. Road down to the bay is not for the faint hearted. About 15 minutes of twists and turns on a very narrow asphalt track. Most people come by water taxi from Loutro or by foot from Loutro, about 45 minutes. (Walk is not so easy, but achievable). However once you get here, it’s really nice. Need to stay a few days just to unwind. Owner Pavlos is superb. Hussein, his assistant speaks great English and has a great sense of humour. There are 2 or 3 other tavernas close by for variety. Einfache aber charmante Taverne am Lycos Beach, gute Lage wenn man am E 4 weiterwandern will. Der Besitzer Pavlos ist sehr herzlich und sehr bemüht, seinen Gästen eine gute Zeit zu verschaffen. Es gibt eine kleine aber feine Auswahl an Speisen, welche Pavlos Mama zubereitet und sehr gut schmeckt! Die Zimmer sind einfach, aber sehr sauber und man hat alles was man braucht, sogar einen kleinen Balkon mit Meerblick

Das Frühstück hat sehr lange gedauert, da Pavlos alles selbst zubereitet. Wenn mehrere Gäste gleichzeitig bestellen, dauert das natürlich etwas…das Frühstück war aber gut, wir sind nur 1 Stunde später als geplant zum weiterwandern aufgebrochen…

This is one of those rare hidden gems you almost want to keep a secret so it stays exactly as it is. The location is unbeatable—the rooms are practically on the beach, and dining while looking out at the sea is pure luxury. The heart of this place is the owner, who is incredibly kind, always smiling, and makes a point of remembering every guest by name. His positivity and genuine hospitality make you feel at home instantly. The dining experience is unique; you eat whatever has been freshly prepared that day. While there isn't an à la carte menu like in a typical restaurant—which might be a small adjustment for some—the food is delicious and authentic. Yes, the service is leisurely and you might wait a bit for your meal, but in such a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere, no one seems to mind. It’s all part of the charm. If you are looking for a place to truly unwind and feel welcomed, this is it.

The taverna is situated in an idyllic spot away from almost all other accommodation (not sure what is in the other building nearby in summer), on the sea, with a delightful restaurant right by the water. The goats are kept out so there are wild flowers all around in spring. It is on the E4 and easy to access the Aradena Gorge - for those who don't mind scrambling. The owner/manager, Pavlos, is delightful and extremely friendly.

We realise that providing food is one of the ways the owners need to make money and the source of the food may well be their own local produce. However, we did not feel the quality of it lived up to the hype and warn potential diners/breakfast eaters to check on the costs of the food as they order it (no written menu was offered to us) in order to avoid a shock.
