Impossible Motel

This is a quirky hotel and in many ways very cool, however, the main reason for most hotels is to offer its patrons a good night's sleep. This is something you will struggle with if you book a basement room. I should have guessed really when I was shown to the room and given some earplugs by the doorman. The music went on until around midnight and then the clear-up of whatever was going on above the room lasted until 1.30 am, the earplugs were pretty pointless. On check out, I was asked how my stay was and I mentioned it would be good to tell guests that their room was going to be directly below what I think was the restaurant and that it was going to be noisy. I was told that this is communicated in the emails sent by the hotel after booking. I looked through these emails, and whilst it does mention to be sure you have the right room for your stay as they are a bit quirky, and that the walls are porous and to respect other guests it certainly doesn't mention that you have to put up with a restaurant above your room. Also, the attitude given to me implying that I didn't sleep well due to it being my fault for not reading a very lengthy email wasn't really very good either. Overall the concept of this hotel is interesting and something different, it still doesn't get past the fact that it still needs to offer a place where sleep is the main factor.

Location was fantastic, situated in the center just off The Shambles, a warm welcome by the staff who took our bags as we where early and placed the bags in the room when it was ready. The room we stayed in was very quirky and not your standard room like other hotels. Highly recommended and i would book again. P.s. car parking was a 5 minute walk via the park.

Lovely place to stay for a romantic get away, only down side was the rooms are small although beautifully decorated. We had an issue with our heating too (room 23), the radiator decided to stop working which was annoying, we were offered a plug in heater but declined as there was no room for one and managed without. If you are looking for something a bit different in the heart of York it’s a really nice place to stay but I would opt for one of the larger rooms which are quite expensive.

Had such a lovely stay. We stayed in the Dungeon. The staff went above and beyond from the initial greeting through to when we checked out. The room was clean - no issues at all. Would highly recommend a will be booking again!

quirky & fun little hotel. great experience, would gladly visit again. only downside that the bed was so noisy.

The property was unique and had an amazing atmosphere. Staff are always around just incase you need anything. Was very classy we loved it 😆

Room had lovely interior, but the bathroom was almost dangerously small. Tiny room to squeeze into with tiny sink above toilet and Easy to bang into shower glass and door. Actually comically how small it is. We were also given earplugs as the room was beside the busy street beside a late night McDonald's, the room should come with a warning that you NEED to use earplugs to nearly get a decent sleep. All in all, very expensive for a poor experience, room should come with a warning.
