Otira Stagecoach Hotel

It has an interesting quirky atmosphere because it is full of antique furniture, ancient home appliances and odd collectibles, all very interesting. The owner was friendly and accommodating but was clearly struggling to maintain the upkeep of the ancient building with apparently minimal assistance.

The poor state of maintenance of basic fittings e.g. door latches, plumbing. We had the King room and the bed sheet had oil like stains that hadn’t been properly washed. It seemed like the carpet under the bed had not been vacuumed in weeks and there are old cobwebs underneath by the bed head wall. At breakfast time, there were insufficient plates for the number of guests and the replacement plates offered were not properly washed. We were clearly there at a bad time for the owner as there was no one else on hand to assist.

Das Hotel ist originell und skurril. Ein absolut ungewöhnlicher Ort, der mehr einem Museum gleicht als einem Hotel. Das Personal ist super freundlich.

This unique hotel was full of interesting and quirky objects. The owner was very friendly and full of stories - e.g. you can stay in the room where a former Prime Minister stayed if you wish. They were willing to make us a vegetarian meal although it wasn’t on the menu.

It’s a good stop to stretch your legs and look at the quirky things.

Based on reviews I booked this property. It was cold, it smelt fuggy and musty and so did the linen and towels. The bedding had seen better days and should have all been burnt and replaced. He building is right next to the train line and you can hear freight trains all night. The staff obviously try their best but the owner has turned this place into a clutter haven and there was also a gigantic old spa dumped on the grounds alongside objects and things the owner can’t help but hoard.
