"Interesting old schoolhouse in a historical market town."

Pleasant welcome from the bar staff and the pub was already busy (it was Saturday) at 3 p.m. The single room I stayed in has obviously been redecorated recently with neutral colours and woodstained pine furniture and skirting boards. Nice. Shower was good and despite the warning sign I didn't have to wait for the hot water to come through. Bed was comfortable and the room warm enough. The photos on the bar wall suggest this was once a schoolhouse and the layout supports this. After breakfast we walked down to the town which is very close and enjoyed a coffee in one of the many coffee houses.

Breakfast was anytime between 8 and 9.30 but despite asking for fried eggs and brown toast I got poached egg, white toast and practically raw tomato. Waitress was abrupt and couldn't wait to clear us away with the words "check out is at 10.30 - leave your keys in the room door".
