Swan & Railway Hotel Wigan

The pub itself is really nice, traditional and with interesting decor.

The staff ranged from rude to downright hostile. We were a family group of 12 staying overnight in the hotel. The staff had a real bee in their bonnet about the 15 year old and 17 year old in our group who sat sipping soft drinks until 9pm when they were asked to leave the bar area and did so uncomplainingly. The proprietors should warn paying guests that having children in the pub until the specified time limit, will result in them being treated with open hostility. It would be interesting to see how we'd be treated without children in tow but we will obviously never be returning. This is the only bad review I have given any staff as even if mistakes are made, staff are usually well meaning and hospitable. Not so here. Another strange thing was that on Sunday morning we had to use the fire escape stairs to get in and out of the hotel. If you go to this hotel I'd recommend just using it as a pub and stay elsewhere.

Not much really. It was very expensive and really shouldn’t be.

They hate children. And I have children.

It was convenient, it was clean.

The room was made up for a single person, we had to ask for more towels, the tea and coffee facilities left alot to be desired, there was a particularly rowdy group in the pub part and you could hear alot from the room, I wouldn't put this as 5 star, more like 3. Sorry but we won't be back. Other opinions may differ but this is just our opinion.

Staff, food , beer.

No parking.

The towels and floors were dirty. The shower didn't work properly. And the bathroom hadn't been cleaned; there was brown stuff under the radiator. Definitely not 5 stars

Everything about it even the staff where absolutely amazing and the manager. Beat hotel I've ever being to, they are kind, friendly, helpful and caring
