The Alverbank Hotel

Great location. Staff friendly and professional, excellent service.

The room we were in had a head height cupboard in front of door, which was awkward. Warm night but couldn't open windows due to noise of a machine/pump.

Lovely setting. Lovely people.

Breakfast was excellent. All of the staff are friendly, professional and helpful. We particularly appreciated how welcome our dog was. There is a large park adjacent to the hotel ideal for dog walking.

Breakfast OK, bacon a little overcooked.

*The staff..... are ALL outstanding. Special thanks to both Abbey and Clare. Nothing is too much trouble for them. It should be noted that they have a team of supporting staff all of whom are a reflection of the management team here. *Faultless service by lovely young people who are willing to be of service should anything be required. *The food .... Great breakfasts made to order. * Pet friendly....genuinely dog friendly. *The location....next to Stanley Park and Stokes Bay beach for doggie walks. * A singular positive note about Room 6....the en suite shower room, although compact, has been updated. Good water pressure in both shower and loo flushing. Toiletries available.

*Described as a "Cosy Double" the accommodation in Room 6 is small and shabby. The only thing which could attest to being double is the bed, which is a snug fit in the room. *Cheap Pine furnishings. Better quality furniture is dropped off at the dump for recycling. *Curtains hanging off the rails and drooping without sufficient hooks/rings to support them or open and close the curtains properly. *There is no wardrobe, obviously as space is at a premium in this room, so a makeshift hanging area has been made with a shelf with a rod beneath, spanning a recessed wall next to a disused fireplace. However even this bit of creative thinking falls short of being fit for purpose. Original coat hangers are missing, replaced with two inadequate plastic hangers. *View from the only windows in this room is over the refuse bins beneath which can be noisy when in use. AND * A truly awful staff seating area, which is in use, close to the bins and what looks to be building rubble on the far side. **Shocking really, they deserve so much better.

Lovely location, character, exceptional staff.

Double room for 2 the bed is on the small side, great for a single traveller though. Breakfast started at 08:30 which was too late for me.
