Maryfield House Hotel

Homely family-run feel to the hotel. Owner and staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and clean, and also had a spacious en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. The bed was very comfortable. The cooked breakfast was tasty although there did not seem to be options for a 'light' breakfast. I was asked what I would like for breakfast rather than being presented with a menu. The owners had got in gluten-free granola for me which was appreciated and cater well for dietary requirements if you let them know in advance. Lovely location on Bressay, a short ferry-hop across from Lerwick, with views of Lerwick harbour and Bressay. The hotel has a Whisky room with a large selection of whiskies - I did not partake but would be good for whisky lovers.

Was not informed prior to arrival that the hotel's restaurant was closed on the Monday when I arrived, therefore there was no food available apart from bar snacks (and fruit), which were not suitable for me due to dietary requirements. Having been on the go since 4am I was exhausted and loath to take the ferry back across to Lerwick to find somewhere open that could cater for me (most restaurants in Lerwick that were suitable were also shut on a Monday). Would have appreciated if owners had mentioned this information on booking, although I note that if I had looked at the restaurant page on the website, it does mention it there (not sure how many folk would look there before travelling).

Handy location for Lerwick. On first evening provided a meal despite late arrival (our flight delayed). Excellent choice of malt whiskies available! Food at evening meal on second day very good, with late meal booking accepted. Large bedroom with scenic views. Plenty of free parking. Quiet situation - just the sea birds calling!

B&B very expensive. Evening meal of second day (a Friday): very slow at taking order (proprietor was rushed of his feet, needed more waiting staff), but served promptly once ordered. Table should have been in main restaurant room, not in bar with noisy family party. Lerwick-Bressay car ferry ran at conveniently late times, but a little expensive.

The bed was comfortable, powerful shower, plenty storage space and open view to sea and Lerwick. The full breakfast was tasty and filling and the one dinner I had was delicious.

There were no complimentary biscuits or shortbread with the tea / coffee tray and no box of tissues provided. Most unusual.

Everything about MARYFIELD was perfect. Position. Views. Cleanliness. Comfort. Food. Friendliness.
