Great villa, huge pool and super friendly staff - will be back!

the pool and grounds were lovely, the bedrooms were nicely fitted out the bathrooms were lovely as well the airconditioned bedrooms were a relief

The cleanliness of the furniture as in the material on the couches and chairs were dirty. The kitchen had very few items to cook with the lady who came and cooked breakfast had to bring her own pans to cook our food the in the kitchen drawers were hard to move There was no information booklet and we were unsure of the role of the staff, some days they set the table etc and other days they did not They failed to have a proper cot and high chair on arrival and we were still negotiating to get these at 1.00am in the morning they were requested via the booking. very unsatisfactory the dining cahirs were hard to lift

What an amazing place!!! The hotel is very aesthetic inside and outside the rooms. The pool and sitting area is beautiful and peaceful. The two dogs running around makes it feel like home. The bathroom was clean and spacious, the bed very comfortable with a mosquito net. The staff was very helpful and in the background. We felt very relaxed here and loved our stay! We would definitely come back.

Beautiful villa, quiet and calm. The staff were wonderful and the location is great.

It’s amazing villa, so relaxing and stylish, we extended our stay 3 times. Out favourite doggy Fedi, we miss her so much!

The position of the aircons above the bed and the noisiness (aircon was old and very loud) so we couldn’t use it at night. If they just move it to the side of the room and install a new one, it would change the whole room experience to 10/10

Second review in one trip. We loved it so we booked for more days even though there is plenty of properties to stay in Sri Lanka, the Merchant House ticked all the boxes for us. It feel Like home, it offers simple breakfast to be made yourself, tea and coffee, and cleaning service, and you can feel very secluded and private in there. We got very attached to the dogs, and the staff guys are super nice.

The only minus was communication with the “manager/reception”, until we found the number via the cleaning staff, we didn’t know who to contact, which room to check in. We had an early check-in arranged but there was no one to meet us, maybe next time a little note on the door/by the entrance would be appreciated. We arrived at 6am, and no one was there, we wanted to lay down to rest but didn’t know which room was ours, and didn’t want to knock on doors in the new place at 6am. so we were hanging out for an hour until the shift staff arrived at 7am. Too relaxed 🤭

The building was the most aesthetic we stayed in while in Sri Lanka. The pool and rooms were well maintained and clean. The room was nice and had a gorgeous bathroom that consisted of an undercover and an open shower which was lovely to use on the warmer days. The bed was comfortable and the room included a safe for your valuables.

Even though the bathroom was big the room wasn't that spacious and has no private place to sit, and the bed is covered with a mosquito net so if you wanted to lounge you had to use the communal facilities (which were nice). The wifi did not work at all and the signal within the building was weak which was not ideal. A few details were also lacking for a five star place, our wardrobe was a bit scratched up, a couple of the couches in the main area and kitchen seemed a bit worn.

Everything was exactly like portrayed in the pictures. Super clean rooms and swimming pool. Very quiet area which is a really nice contrast to the noisy beach vibe.
