The White Lion

The second room on first floor was very noisy due to people in room above walking around until late. Although age of property means that rooms are quirky, something should be done to sound-proof rooms from floorboard noises above. Breakfast not impressive. Two poached eggs on two slices of brown sliced bread. Not sourdough as detailed on menu. No dressing of meal/plate. I could have made breakfast look more appetising. I was looking forward to Sunday roast and wasn't told until order was being taken that ALL roasts had run out. I should have been told that as soon as I sat down. It's not good enough to only tell customers when they are ordering that half of the menu isn't available!

Staff were excellent, breakfast & evening meals also very good. Car park safe & secure.

Generally the property is in serious need of repair, renovation & decor. I accept it is a very old building, but the carpets are thread bear, the wooden floor dirty & sticky, paint & decor are very tired, the bathroom had large amounts of fluff & dust on the floor behind the toilet & the bedroom floor so uneven the bed slopes to the feet & to the left. On several occasions I nearly fell out of bed!!

We stayed midweek. The location was ideal for Chapeldown vineyard. The staff we dealt with were nice and polite. The room was fine, perhaps a bit dated, but bed was comfy and we only stayed for a night. The place has nice decor and a lot of potential, it is certainly not maximising on it at the moment.

They appeared to be understaffed and therefore service was slow and one member of staff was trying to juggle 3-4 jobs. There was never anyone at the bar. Breakfast was disappointing, we had a burnt omelette, lumpy hollandaise and what appeared to be reheated sausages. I think if it weren’t for the breakfast being included we would have eaten elsewhere, which is a shame. It wouldn’t take much to massively improve the breakfast.

Found the rooms cold. The radiators did not work during the first 3 nights we stayed.

We stayed at The White Lion on New Years Eve - it was a busy night but when we asked for some help in turning our tv off this was done. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked to order The plumbing, we had been warned, as its an old building the hot water would take time to arrive. I gave up with a bath and took a shower. My poor husband then got the hot water and found it a bit too hot - ce'st la vie!

Great location in the town centre with parking beautiful building room was lovely clean and very comfortable breakfast was great
