The location was perfect for our event at the Tenterden club and central for the High Street. The hotel may seem tired outside but the rooms were clean and offered everything we needed, including nice touches eg coffee machine, nice toiletries and fab towels. Staff were very helpful. We didn’t have a chance to eat there so can’t comment on that.

We stayed for an early appointment for my son. However, all doors were locked and we could not get out. Two other guests could not open the door plus one member of staff who confirmed this was a regular issue. My son missed his appointment because of this and it is obvious fire safety risk. However, when reporting the issues, the manager was totally dismissive and saying the lock was a standard door lock and he did not have problems opening it. He refused to recognise the problem even when I used a broken record to say 5 people including a member of staff could not open the door. I have no confidence that the issue will be rectified. Hence, the very bad review as I would not stay in this hotel again until this both Health and Safety and practical issue is resolved. In addition, there was no plug for the bath with a beam making having a shower difficult. I did want a bath! Generally, although quaint old place with expected character forming features, which I would normally love, it is overdue for some refurbishment.

We booked to get early start for my son at 6.45 There was only one door to get out if the hotel. That was jammed and neither of us could open it. Nor could two other guests who arrived after us. Nor could one of the hotel staff who tried and said ‘the door has jammed again’. He took the other two out via the kitchen where he had a key. The goid 15 min delay was too too late by then for my son who had missed his appointment, ie the reason for staying. The hotel manager reaction was ‘the door was a standard door lock that was working properly’. Even when I started a broken record that 5 people failed to open the door including one of their staff he could not see anything problem Thus is severe health and safety issue - what would have happened if there was an emergency like a fire? They clearly were not going to do anything about it. In addition, hotel showing signs that it needs a refurbishment. I could not even take a bath as there was no bath plug in the bath I have never given such a bad review before but the combination of heath and safety issue and manager who is in total denial of all feedback and clearly was not going to take any action except gaslighting me deserves it. Do not stay here! It is not safe and the management is awful. You have been warned.

Met with friends for Friday lunch and stayed overnight. Lunch, disappointingly average food, averagely cooked, served after a bit of a wait. 12.5% service charge even on drinks we bought at the bar and the the bill stated that gratuities not included, really?? No heating in room when we entered at 9pm. Turned radiators on still no heat, still no heating first thing in the morning, room was tired, bed and duvet not comfortable, could hear other guests walking by room, next door room had whimpering dog..the room had metal ceiling support right next to the bed which my husband walked into during the night. Breakfast was OK.. The overnight stay was definitely not worth the money.. Possibly one of the worst overnight stays ever.. the 2 stars are for the parking.

My brothers and I (plus spouses) had organised a night away with my elderly parents as their Christmas present. My dad tripped down a step which he hadn't seen on the way in and staff were so helpful and concerned. Luckily he was fine. Excellent food and drink plus great service. It's an old quirky building but rooms are spotless. Would recommend and would visit again

Location in the middle of Tenterden High Street was good - just a short stroll to shops, cafes and restaurants. Also, just a 20 min drive to Rye for a day of sight-seeing. Free parking for guests. Rooms were quite large, comfortable and clean. Nice selection of teas and coffee in the room. Breakfast selection and portions were really good. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Pub had a lovely ambiance.

A bit noisy at night. Unfortunately it was a weekend of private parties and a live band performance so it was quite noisy at night - suppose you can expect that from a pub accommodation though. Music did stop at 11pm as advertised.
