Surf Beach Hotel

Bright and breezy. Great location and view. Friendly and helpful caretaker

WiFi signal was poor and it was slow. No hot water (which wasn’t a major problem because the weather was hot, but it was not made clear on the advertisement). Also payment was cash only which was not advertised and if you are staying for a while, you will need a lot of cash

Nice place very close to the beach. The family that owns It is very helpfull and charming.

We were in the "tree house" for nine nights. The view from the large terrace is exceptional! Also, there is always a nice breeze up there. We had a family of monkeys visiting regularly - rare opportunity to watch them from very close. The Surf Beach Hotel is only a very short walk away from the great beach where we could safely swim. The family has helped us with tuktuk trips to nearby beaches and surf spots. Deen and his team offer surfing lessons at Elephant Rock surf point and start right at the hotel. Great place to surf!

We found the rate for the "tree house" quite high, also considering that there is no breakfast included.

It’s a beautiful little treehouse up in the canopy with views of the sea. It’s simple but utterly charming. Great for families with kids (best above 6 due to steps and balcony perhaps). The location is brilliant, the staff are super friendly and helpful, and surfing can be arranged from the property by Tuk Tuk. It’s close to the Main Street for restaurants and bars, and seconds from the sea which has great waves to play in. A brilliant rustic family stay!

There is nothing not to like. Just be aware it is rustic with some steep steps and a wooden railed balcony.

The location was perfect: one minute away from the beach and the central street with all of the shops and restaurants, but far enough from both to be nice and quiet. The room itself is basic, but clean and the bed is nice. The price is quite high, but reasonable considering the location and the fact that its Arugam Bay. The staff was nice and helpfull. The little 'balcony' with a nice hammock and some water to wash sandy beach feet was very pleasant.

They don’t offer breakfast but there’s plenty of restaurants around with lots of breakfast options.

Our room had a tiny window that we couldn’t open properly as there was a washing line outside and didn’t feel very private. The room got so uncomfortably warm. Our room looked nothing like any of the pictures online. On our first night we stayed in one of the rooms advertised but then got moved for the last two nights to the small dark room with no window. At the time I presumed they must have advertised this room and we just hadn’t seen it so didn’t want to complain, my internet wasn’t working the best so I wasn’t able to properly check however after leaving and having a look, the room we stayed in is definitely not shown on the booking and had I known, we would be staying there we would not have booked it.

The hostility was unmatched, the location being super close to the beach and the room having all you need makes surf beach hotel a great place to stay in arugam bay. We are even provided with a bowl full of water for the feet to ensure the room is not sandy.
