Surf Beach Hotel

Deen is a great host who did everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The accommodation was clean and well maintained and just a few meters from the beach.

We had a nice time staying at this hotel/guesthouse with Deen and his family! The property is located a stone's throw from the beach and is very close to the hustle and bustle of the main road in Arugam Bay (including plenty of shops and restaurants). Despite it's central location, it's very quiet and peaceful when you enter the place and at night you can hear the waves crashing on the beach that is right behind. The rooms are basic but are clean and have everything you would need (including a mosquito net and air conditioning). You have a little terrace out front with a couple of chairs and a hammock to relax between surf lessons and exploring the sights. We booked surf lessons with Deen which were great! As complete beginners we were able to learn the basics and after two days would manage to stand up on the board and catch a few waves. On our last night Deen and his family also organised a nice beach barbecue for us and the other guests/surf students, with fresh fish and a delicious curry sauce! We would definitely recommend staying at Surf Beach Hotel for your stay in Arugam Bay :)

For the price we found that the rooms were a little basic, however we were there at the end of the surfing season as the waves were still going strong. On top of that there were many tourists from Israel and it was Jewish New Year whilst we were there so probably another reason why the prices in Arugam Bay seemed higher than the rest of Sri Lanka at that time (not only for our room but for food in the restaurants also). Nevertheless we were happy with our stay, our expectations might have been a bit high for the room, but Deen and his family made up for it with their kindness :)

The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The AC room have a little terrace with a hammock, which is wonderful to hang out after afternoon in the water or at the wonderful beach that is only a minute away.

Beautiful property so much space! Staff really helpful and great surf instructors that took us to all the best locations by tuk tuk. The apartment is really open so you can hear the sea it feels like you are right next to the waves. Great location near all the bars and restaurants too as well as easy to access beaches.
