Location, design, lounge with fire and bar. Ski in ski out very good. Literally 50 m to the lift to the best part of Shiga Kogan. Room are spacious with lovely views. View from onsen. Nice bar tender.

There is nothing I did not like but property but if I had to pick one thing it would be onsen would be nicer than bath but this is not really readily available in Shiga Kogan

Brilliant location. Not truly ski out but 2 mins walk to chairlift and 4 or 5 mins walk to base with lift tickets, food and ski school. It counts as ski in although if you don’t manage your momentum, you might have a short walk. No problem. So well set up for skiing. Ski locker right near entrance (on third floor), gas pressure nozzles to blow snow off gear. Lovely staff, helpful and friendly. The manager was particularly helpful and friendly. Breakfast is good (more than adequate and wide variety but quality is acceptable rather than amazing). Dinners are again fairly good but quality again is reasonable rather than exceptional. Within expectation considering this is a ski hotel. We had the French and Japanese (didn’t try teppanyaki). Would highly recommend half board - it’s easier and not many options nearby. Cafe/bar was good - had coffee there, lovely vibe, udon for lunch was good. Overall, I was very happy with the Hotel relative to the price we paid. We have stayed at Ski in Ski out hotels elsewhere including Europe and paid significantly more for lesser quality accommodations than this. A great stay and a great ski experience.

Getting a little rundown, but if you have the right expectations, it’s not a problem. The rooms are a decent size, big enough for your ski gear, and clean. My main issue with the room is it is very dark without enough lighting options in the evening. We asked for a floor lamp for another table lamp but that was not available. We ended up taking the lampshades off the lamps which helped but didn’t solve the problem. It’s impossible to avoid stairs. There are lifts which are efficient. But even within the same floor, there are stairs. Getting to breakfast and the Japanese restaurant involves three sets of stairs. The French restaurant has fewer. It would be nice to get assistance with luggage, especially given how huge and sprawling the place is. There is a ramp so you don’t have to take your bags downstairs but be prepared. If the Hotel staff could help with luggage, that would make a huge difference. I would be willing to pay more in Room rates just for some help with luggage! Ski gear from the Hotel rental is probably not the best, but probably what you would expect. The snowboards look ancient. We ended up going across to the other nearby hotel which had slightly better gear for rentals.
