Okushiga Kogen Hotel

This was our second stay at this property having spent a week here in January 2025. That stay was good, this stay was exceptional. The rooms are dated but large and very comfortable. Breakfast buffet offers plenty of choice and eggs can be ordered. The onsen is large and super clean. We ate at the Japanese restaurant every night and food was of the highest standard. Location is ski in ski out.

It was all very good. The ski locker area is a bit cramped with limited seating.

Prices for dinner were outrageous

This was our second time staying at the hotel. The room was a good size for three adults with a lovely view into the forest. All beds were comfortable, with good quality linen. The onsen was great for a soak at the end of a ski day. The ski in/ski out was excellent. Ski rental availability at the hotel is handy, and is the same company as the ski rental right next to the lifts, making swapping of skis/snow boards, or adjustments, super easy. The lounge area with an open fire and bar provides great ambience. Love the Shiga Kogen ski area. So much variety for skiing - you can explore from one end of the valley right to the end. Will be back.

Breakfast was sufficient, but lacked variety - exactly the same offerings every day. There are no other places to eat in Okushiga (except for the Sports Bar across the road, which is only open until 3.30pm) and since the bus service finishes around 6pm, it makes going out for dinner very difficult. Basically your only options are to eat at one of the restaurants in the hotel every night. Would be great to have a more casual and affordable option at the hotel, especially for families. Even if the bar menu in the evening was extended to include burgers or ramen etc, it would make a difference.

Excellent location, and facilities - Excellent sized rooms

Dining options were restricted to fine dining, with the only casual dining being pizza at the bar, which ran out on one of the days. A more casual à la carte dining option would make this hotel complete.

Peaceful and quiet

Expensive for what it offers. It is a comfortable hotel but for the price the hotel does seem dated and location can seem secluded and out of the way. Okushiga is at the far end of Shiga Kogen so if your intention is to ski across the different Shiga Kogen areas it can be a bit inconvenient. It is only connected to yakebitaiyama.
