Rancho Cumbre Monarca

The whole staff was great, the grounds and room were clean. Very serene environment. Transportation to and from the hotel can be challenging but the hotel can provide transportation for a fee if needed which was great! I used their transportation to and from El Rosario and to the bus station. The restaurant was amazing, all the dishes were fantastic! There was enough blankets to keep me warm at night. They sell firewood if you need it.

There wasn't anything I did not like about the property but if you are expecting a resort type then find somewhere else. It's a very cabin feel which I didn't mind, I knew what I was getting into. Also take sufficient cash, the whole town does not accept cards, ATM's are non existent unless you go to Ocampo.

We really liked staying at Rancho Cumbre Beautiful location in a beautiful part of the state Property is large with trails , animals roaming, different seating places , rustic decor. Lovely place !!!

It was close to the Monach Butterfly Reserve.

It was run down. The rooms were cold, with no way to heat them unless you bought firewood. I would not have been comfortable lighting a fire there. There was not a written menu in the restaurant and nobody spoke even a little bit of English to explain the meals. We got information on how to get to the butterfly reserve from other guests not the onsite staff.

Beautiful, rustic, few people and many animals. Nice craft decorations.

Rancho Cumbre Monarca was very interesting, rustic, well-appointed, and friendly. Pet-friendly, it includes kennels and a large enclosed dog park. The location is very convenient to the butterfly sanctuary, El Rosario.

Only the room heat was disappointing. Each room is equipped with a wood-burning fireplace but the wood is only provided at extra cost of approx USD 11 per night. As the fire burns down, smoke enters the room, making a strong odor.

The people who run this place are very friendly. The grounds and area around the main building are lovely and a nice place to sit in the afternoons. It’s only 10 minutes from Mariposa Monarca El Rosario.

It’s “rustic” to be kind - some would say “basic”. It gets down to near freezing overnight and there’s no heating in the bedrooms. They do offer wood so you can have a fire, which is cozy but it soon disappears and it doesn’t make it any warmer in the morning. We also had a problem with smoke escaping into the bedroom. The doors to our balcony had massive gaps at the bottom so it did get very cold. You really have to wrap up warm for breakfast!
