"Attractive modern hotel, a tranquil oasis on the most beautiful part of a beautiful beach."

8.0

I spent a great deal of my childhood on Diani Beach. For many years we used to stay at the now (sadly) defunct and derelict Jadini Hotel only a couple of hundred meters down the beach from this hotel. The Ocean Village Club did not exist back in those days. The design of the buildings here is very much in keeping with the Arab influence of the Kenya Coast- very attractive. The gardens are verdant, gorgeous and meticulously maintained. The rooms are big and comfortable and the a/c works just great. Water is often a big issue and anyone who lives here knows how unreliable supply can be. Bathroom water here must be substantially or wholly bore water as it is very salty. The girls are not overly happy with this! I note also that the rate of flow in the shower tends to vary whilst running and inclined to run out of hot water after a few showers. The hotel is advertised as for adults only and I can understand its appeal for those who want peace and quiet. Guests, in the main, are of an older set and I would guess the majority are from European countries. Booking options include half-board only (breakfast and dinner). Breakfast was all you could hope for with eggs cooked to order. Lunch options are mostly pasta, pizza and burgers- all very good. One thing we did not realise, or expect, was that dinner is always buffet. In fine weather all the tables are placed out on the big lawn which is very nice and romantic! Buffet evenings have a different nationality theme each night e.g. Thai, Italian and even a ‘Swahili’ evening although I’m not sure what Swahili cuisine is. I guess there was always plenty to choose from something for everyone to find something they'd enjoy. The pool and surrounds are nice and there are plenty of sun-lounges on the beach-front. Yes, you get beach-boys trying to sell you things when you venture out but they all friendly and polite when not getting a sale. We never found them to be a hassle. The hotel requires that gentlemen wear trousers for dinner and also appropriate footwear. I agree that this creates a more salubrious ambience at dinner than a bunch of men in shorts. In any event the ladies always seem to appear delightfully attired! Diani Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and you can walk for miles and miles. The tennis court here has seen better days- the surface is worn and lumpy and the fence has so many holes you’re forever venturing out to pick up balls. We chose this hotel largely based on its excellent reviews. The hotel is advertised as a non-tipping hotel. That’s fine as you, otherwise, might feel a constant need to tip for service plus those staff behind the scenes can miss out. Having said that I did see guests tipping on a couple of occasions and these were gratefully accepted. The hotel says that, in lieu of tipping, they give their staff a handsome bonus if and when their Booking.com reviews each month are as good or better than before. I feel that this is disingenuous and almost a gun to my head because the staff are excellent and very attentive and there could be other reasons why someone might not be happy to offer an excellent review. I reckon that the best thing would be to discourage tipping but to offer the means for guests to gift an overall tip at the end of their stay and which should be fairly distributed to all staff and more reasonably represent the guests’ appreciation of this aspect of the hotel’s performance.

"5* Paradise!"

10.0

We had a truly wonderful stay here. Fantastic location with beautiful surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Everyone was so friendly and smiley. From Simon in the bar and restaurant to Hamisi who gave us a wonderful tennis lesson to Alex the tailor who made my husband some beautiful trousers for evening dinner as he forgot to pack long trousers! Abulsamad, the manager, took time out of his busy day to speak with guests giving it a true personal touch. The concierge and reception staff were so welcoming, the grounds and the rooms were kept spotless by an amazing team of housekeeping. Food was 5*. Compliments to the chefs. There was an amazing selection of tasty food to choose from and lovely cocktails too. Perfect negronis and I recommend the watermelon dawa! Those front of house and behind the scenes we don't know all of your names but we thank every single one of you for making our stay so special.

"We loved it and will return"

10.0

The staff were fantastic. The location and property are lovely and well kept. The hotel opens up directly into the beach. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent. Great selection including lobster regularly cooked outside on a bbq. Loved everything about OVC

A really small fault is that the internal hotel pricing is in USD. Everywhere else is Kenyan Shillings. Somehow takes away the magic of the Kenyan /African holiday experience

"6 STAR!"

10.0

What a fabulous place this is and the staff made it even better. Everyone was very friendly and helpfull - it was a real treat to get this sort of service. Nothing was too much trouble and the chef even provided me with some bait for fishing. Room was great with constant aircon, turndown and moquito replent service (although I never heard or saw one!). Couldnt fault dinner and breakfast and they even grilled our fresh catch of the day - wahoo. Not too busy so plenty of spce and sunbeds. The beach boys were friendly and not too pushy. You can walk for miles on the beach, take a trip out to the sandbank, arrange some sport fishing -(we caught Marlin and sailfish) have a trip on a microlite, snorkle or just relax by the warm Indian Ocean. Would recommend a trip to the local vilage, wood carving co-op and Colubus monkey sanctuary nearby as well an the snorkeling at Wasini Island plus morning Mombassa trip which the hotel can arrange.

"Best Vacation I Can Remember"

10.0

My family has traveled the U.S., Latin America, and Africa and our experience at Ocean Village Club has topped our vacationing experience. Ten out of ten is not sufficient. They are twenty out of ten! It is an adults resort (no children) so that offers some appeal for those wanting more quiet and serenity. The grounds are lush and well-manicured. The pool and lounge areas are very comfortable and clean. There are multiple areas to sit and relax or dine. The resort is directly on the beautiful beach off of the Indian Ocean. From the moment we arrived on property, we felt pampered. Wet cloths to freshen yourself. Very thoughtful. The rooms are exquisite. We felt like royalty. The outdoor shower worked well (there's a tub in the well-appointed bathroom). The AC works very well, so we were comfortable the entire time. The WIFI connection worked for us and we had multiple devices. There were staff members at every turn if you needed anything--even if they were doing something else. They take the DINING experience to a whole other level. PHENOMENAL is the only way to describe it adequately. The meals (breakfast and dinner were included for us) meet the demand of every palate. Fish, chicken, beef ... and it all tastes wonderful. The salads were great. Breakfast was the same--many offerings. We had a hard time leaving the Ocean Village Club, but look forward to returning. Highly recommended if you're visiting Diani Beach (without kids).
