Punakaiki Rocks Hotel & Garden Bar

Property is well located close to the pancake rocks and beach access. The adjacent bar/cafe is fine and food is decent. The beer on tab is really good and most of the staff (with one exception) are friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the check in experience was not great. The lady at the bar saw us waiting to check in and did not react at all. When asked she said yeah we are busy at the bar (it did not look like it with only 1 person ordering beer after we already waited) and than came over. Additionally really bad was that we found bed bugs the morning we left. The hotel after contacting them did not really care and we were not able to get some refund or acknowledgement that they were sorry from them. Be aware and don’t expect a clean place from this team

Das Zimmer ist klein, für Backpacker wahrscheinlich ausreichend. Wir hatten große Koffer und mussten uns dafür Platz schaffen indem wir einen Couchtisch auf einen Sessel gestellt haben. Der Betrieb hat wahrscheinlich aufgrund seiner abgeschiedenen Lage ein Personalproblem. Wir wurden beim Check-in sehr unfreundlich empfangen. Wir konnten unsere Abendesssensbestellung auch nicht sofort aufgeben, weil etwas mit dem Koch passiert ist. Es hieß, wir sollten in 15min wiederkommen. Dann mussten wir feststellen, dass sich einige Gäste dazwischengeschoben haben. Leitungswasser ist stark gechlort. Wasserflaschen im Restaurant sind doppelt so teuer wie im Café bei den Pancake Rocks

Bed was good, shower was fine. Location was great- next to beach and garden restaurant/ bar.

No space to put sponge bag and hang towel next to shower. Had some simple cutlery and bowls but no sink or washing equipment. No microwave.

Room was not what was advertised - it was tiny, bathroom stink to the point of toilet paper being damp and no ventilation. 1 average double bed. Food very average and hotel staff lacked customer service.

The room is intended for three persons. There were only 2 cups, 2 small bowls and no other cutlery or crockery

This was perfect for the 3 of us for a couple of nights. Room tiny, basic, but comfortable and so accessible to everything we wanted to do. Having onsite restaurant perfect after long days hiking. Price was good in comparison to others.
