Kao Feng Hotel

The location is ok.

Customer service was not good. Staff was not friendly and lack of patience when you ask more questions.

Location was good, hot water good

Outdated , didn’t have the standard electric sockets generally available in Taiwan. We asked reception for an adapter , only one was available and charged ntd 500 as a deposit. We initially booked two nights but due to fire at Heathrow airport all flight were cancelled which included our flight. My Taiwanese friend contacted the hotel explained the situation and cancelled one night as we will not be able to make it. The hotel cancelled the night however charged us for both nights (around £215). Can’t see myself staying here again.

There were a lot of Taiwanese breakfast options, which also meant that I didn't know/recognize half of the things. It tasted alright and there was more than enough.

Breakfast wasn't at the hotel. The eggs were too salty in my opinion.

We enjoyed our stay at the Kao Feng Hotel and could easily catch the train for the sunrise from there the next morning. The room had a comfortable heater and especially heated mattress and blanket, which was really great!! :) The staff was really friendly and welcoming. For us the little noises from other rooms were no problem.

The bed was quite small for two persons.

Despite some of the lower ratings, we had a positive experience at this property. For us, it was generally very quiet, with only occasional noise in the corridor, which was manageable. The room had a retro/old-world charm but was incredibly clean. It featured thoughtful touches like a mountain spring water tap and a lovely tea-making set, complemented by comfortable furniture for enjoying tea. While our room didn’t have the best view—overlooking the forest and part of the carpark—it was still decent. The exterior of the property may look a bit dated, but this didn’t affect the cleanliness or comfort of the interior, so it wasn’t an issue for us. The service was excellent. The staff went out of their way to consider the needs of visitors to Alishan. For example, they offered a free shuttle to the bus station and were flexible with our plans, even providing an earlier transfer when they saw us waiting. The sunrise tour package they offered was very affordable and convenient, allowing us to save energy by avoiding the very early train transfers. The morning call for the tour was another thoughtful touch. The location is also very convenient, close to the information center and just a short walk up the stairs to the main square. Overall, the property exceeded our expectations. While it is on the pricier side—typical for the area—it is one of the more affordable options in the Alishan recreational area. Highly recommended for its cleanliness, charm, and excellent service.

It would be great if earlier communication, such as offering a transfer from the bus station, was provided to help guests plan their arrival more smoothly.
