KALA Khiva

The hotel is just a short walk from the main sights but in a "normal" residential part of the old city. Very safe. The hosts were exceptionally friendly. The daughter managed everything, spoke English well, learns German and is very open&quick to offer solutions. Her father is a historian and has filled the beautifully renovated house with his finds from he renovation: vases, glass, coins, pieces of terakotta. 2 lovely models of the city&ark he made with his students. The roof-top terrace is delightful! If there are enough guests they offer dinner. For breakfast I had fresh fruit- figues- and Figue preserve, traditional bread- and even a fresh omelette! A special place if you don't want to be in the tourist bubble of Ichan-Kala and accept a simple but clean standard w. ensuite bath+climate.. I got many tipps where to go and what to see. Hope to come back soon with my family!

You should use bottled water for brushing teeth- as everywhere in Chiwa. But the family told me immediately. Despite that: nothing!

Amazing breakfast of huge variety. Staff was friendly willing to help everytime.

Exceptionally friendly team in hotel. Owner is a historian who was previously working on expositions in some Khiva museums. I would highly recommend to have the dinner in the hotel when available. Breakfast is nice and can be served when you need even if you checkout early.

Rooms need some repair at places. Everything is clean and tidy just not new.

Communication is difficult if you do not speak Uzbek or Russian.

As it was low season, we could check in a little early and check out later for no charge. The owner of this place is very friendly and helpful. Rich breakfast and comfortable rooms.

The sheets and the pillows were quite dirty :( The bathroom wasn't cleaned well too.

Very close to main attractions, yet, the area was quiet, except for some noise in the early evening from the neighborhood, but it would however soon end so we could have good night sleep. Breakfast was good, no complaints at all. Really nice terrace with fantastic view, but I really missed the chairs, it would have been nice to be able to rest a little bit in the evening, have a drink, cool down and just enjoy. The owners were nice and helpful, and overall I think this is a nice place to stay.

The room was nice and big enough, but the bathroom was quite small and uncomfortable for two people. It seems "neglected" in comparison to the rest of the property (which really was well maintained) and I think bathroom appliances, bathtub, pipes etc. need to be replaced. There was some problem with water pressure, probably due to insufficient capacity of the local infrastructure.
