"You could spend $200 plus at the Best Western down the road, but why?"

10.0

This is a clean, no frills hotel with firm mattresses, which we found perfect for a good night's sleep. You go into the bar, get the key from the man behind it. Give him your credit card. Take the stairs. Even better, take the elevator which dings pleasantly as you arrive at your floor. Very clean, great small town charm throughout. Room service lady waves goodbye to us from rear balcony as we depart. What could be better, I ask ya' ? Now,if you are the type of patron who needs a "total experience", i.e., aroma therapy, hot rock massage, farm to table cuisine, and totally aseptic, new, surroundings, this place is definitely not for you. However, I do feel that there one make-or-break litmus test for a hotel, and this is: how did you sleep? Score 100.

"Good for a Night"

6.0

We were here for one night - needed a place to shower and sleep and this certainly fit the bill. While it is true that the rooms are a bit dated, everything was clean and tidy. We had no issues with customer service or being up sold for anything. Check in and out was easy. There is free parking and you can walk to a few different restaurants and bars. We did not eat at the bar/restaurant in the hotel but we did have a drink there and the bartender was very nice.

"USE WITH CAUTION - VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE"

2.0

USE WITH CAUTION. We booked through their online booking on their website. First they didn't even have our reservation when we arrived. Second, they tried to add an extra $140 to our confirmed reservation price (ABOVE and beyond the cost of the listed taxes and fees) and when the receptionist called the manager he came in showing me someone else's reservation as proof of fees even though I had my reservation clearly available that did not include those fees. He was screaming at me that I wouldn't be staying there unless I paid the added fees. I have never been treated that way in my life and my family and I were left scrambling trying to find another place to stay on a holiday weekend with a race in town nearby. It was a nightmare. Then he tried to report a cancellation fee to the booking company!!!! When they didn't even have my reservation to begin with when I arrived! After explaining the horrible situation the booking company refunded me the extra money I had to pay for the backup hotel we had to stay in and apologized for how I was treated. I would not recommend risking a reservation here in case you have to come into contact with the rude, angry owner for any reason.

"Beware of the upsell!!!!!"

6.0

I stayed in this hotel a while back and wrote a decent review. However upon arrival I was told my room others reviews of this hotel. They were given a song and dance and the upsell too!!! Don't get me wrong I still think that the place is decent and had a nice stay. Just be prepared for some kind of shenanigans from the owner and staff. I think they low-ball on price then you end up spending a little more.

"Old is right...but not in a bad way"

6.0

This is an old hotel. Not fancy but good value for money. Towels are worn and small, carpet old, bathrooms older but decent hotel. Has restaurant/bar in lobby and located on town square. The staff is friendly. There is WiFi but it isn't great. Food pretty good in restaurant. Good cheese fries!

"I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't"

4.0

Read the reviews, and decided I'd have to go for it. I pretty much had to, there was an Indy Car race at Watkins Glen, and the NY Hot Air Balloon festival in Dansville, and everything was booked solid in the area. The price is right, and the room was very clean. Large, Nicely remodeled, and very nicely furnished. So far, you can't go wrong. The whole room still smelled "old" though. I think this was due to to original 1800's woodwork, and monster sized 1800's window with 1800's woodwork on the outer wall. If you're going to remodel a place, go all the way. This goes for the hallways too, they stunk to high heaven. It might be cute to visit the East Podunk museum in a built in 1850 railroad terminal, but I wouldn't want to sleep in it. Hardest. Bed. I. Ever. Slept. On. I don't know if this is due to the mattress being inexpensive, or the owners personal preference for extra firm, but I had a horrible nights sleep. It didn't bother me one bit, but be advised you get almost no amenities here. No Coffee maker, hair dryer, microfridge, clock radio, etc. Ice? There's a microfridge in the hallway full of ice, with cereal bowls to fill. We had a big old picture tube TV, with about 35 channels. These were no problem with me though, the price is right, and it really is clean, and beautifully furnished. This review could still have been 3 or 4 stars. But what really killed it was no hot water in the morning (and there have been other reports of that). That's a game changer, as far as I'm concerned. :-)

"Pretty But..."

6.0

I think going here during the day to check out the old charm is plenty. We spent the night only because we made a stop over in town and visited a few bars down the street. The room was simple and clean but that is all I can say. Parking is iffy in the back, the cashier didn't even have $30 in change to break a bill.

"Definitely not worth the money and not pet friendly!"

4.0

We chose this hotel because it claimed to be pet friendly and had some good reviews. While the room itself is passable, the hotel is really not pet friendly. Worst part though is the owner who was absent and unresponsive to all requests unless when it comes to charging the credit card. First off, the hotel wanted to charge us $50 deposit for our pet, for a room that was $65! This policy was never mentioned during booking even though we declared our canine travel companion from the get-go. They claim they would return $25 of the deposit if the room is left in good condition but the other $25 is required for a flea fumigation. It is more likely for the century old shag carpet in the room to harbour fleas than my dog! I have no doubt that the fumigation fee is going straight to the owner's pocket. When we requested a refund due to this absurd pet policy, the hotel owner was suddenly unreachable. There was only one staff on site running the bar, kitchen, reception, essentially everything, but he was given no decision making power nor was he informed of hotel policies. To be fair, this sole staff person was really friendly and provided excellent service to the best of his ability. The fault lies solely with the money grabbing invisible owner. With no refund possibility, we were forced to stay the night and was told the owner would be there the next morning to resolve any issues. Of course the owner never showed up but he did take the time to put a charge of $25 on my credit card without ever speaking to us. I would definitely not recommend this hotel especially for those traveling with pets. There are much cleaner, professional, cheaper pet-friendly options in town. The Super 8 down the road charges only a $10 pet fee and the room was a bit cheaper and much more up-to-date.

"You get what you pay for"

6.0

We were only staying one night- just going there to sleep, basically. The room was clean and served it's purpose and the price was definitely right! There were no amenities to speak of, but again, the room was clean, there were clean towels and a television- and it was inexpensive. If I have one complaint, it's that there was only about a half of a roll of toilet paper... and we ran out... that was a problem. I don't care how inexpensive you are- make sure there's enough toilet paper!

Room was very clean and the furniture is beautiful. Beware very comfortable. Plenty of space and sitting area. Staff are sweet and funny. Restaurant right downstairs. Have the western omelette for breakfast!! Best I have ever had. Love the local feel and conversations. Everyone is so friendly and very accommodating!
