OMO5 Kyoto Gion by Hoshino Resorts

A very good hotel, excellent location and excellent service. We stayed here because it was in the center of the Gion district and our stay was perfect: the rooms are large, comfortable, clean and inspired by Kyoto (as is the entire hotel). It has tons of free activities (guided tours of the hotel, tea tasting, etc.) and the staff is very pleasant and helpful (they recommended restaurants in Kyoto and answered all our questions). The only problem is that check-in is at 3 p.m., which is too late. To get here from Kyoto train station you have to take the bus. It's located next to the Yasaka Shrine and the entire Gion and Pontocho area is easily accessible on foot. I highly recommend it.

The location is good, and very convenient. But never choose here only for this reason, as the dishonest stuff will make you a terrible experience!

OMO5 Kyoto Gion scores high marks for its setting—steps from Yasaka-jinja and the lantern-lit lanes of Gion—yet blissfully quiet once you’re inside. Staff could not have been more welcoming, answering every request with genuine warmth. Our “larger” family room still felt tight around the edges (understandable with two kids and luggage), but everything was spotless and cleverly laid out. Rates looked steep at first glance, yet they’re in line with other properties in this prime tourist corridor, so the value is fair for the convenience. All told, a solidly satisfactory stay that gave us front-row access to Kyoto’s evening magic.

Very little to fault OMO5 Kyoto Gion, but a few refinements, would be great to have coffee available in the room. Some more hooks around the room for hanging items. Minor points overall, but areas the hotel could fine-tune.

Loved the property. Staff is friendly, breakfast was good (loved making my own bread). Great location.

Beautiful rooms with such character! So close to EVERYTHING. Walk out of the hotel and you have some amazing attractions at your doorstep. The staff were wonderful - very kind and patient. Lots of interesting information is supplied by the hotel regarding the area and a free tour is also provided which was great and so informative. Washing facilities were great. There is a lovely little bar and patisserie downstairs. Starbucks is across the road although when leaving the property to your left and about 5 shops up is a little bakery that does coffee and sandwiches which are great for on the go. We will definitely come back to this hotel as well as highly recommend it.

Everything was perfect.

Fabulous location. Easy to walk or get public transport. The complimentary ginger tea of an afternoon was a welcome refreshing drink at the end of a hot day. Rooms were fabulous and comfortable, the baked bread was amazing!!!
