Hotel La Orquidea

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, safe, good value for money, clean and had somewhere to store luggage after checkout

Only downside was carrying luggage up the stairs with no elevator but the staff where helpful with this too!

Cuenca is a lovely city and the Orquidea is a lovely place to stay there. It’s an old colonial building, has attractive painted designs on the walls and friendly staff. My room was comfortable, had sufficient space for putting clothes, including a closet. The room was clean and the bed fairly comfortable. The bathroom was fine with a shower that usually had warm water. The receptionist, Viviana, was particularly helpful in carrying my heavy suitcase upstairs, giving recommendations on tourist attractions, providing hot water for tea or coffee outside of breakfast hours, and in general being a very kind and friendly person. The other hotel staff I had contact with also seemed very nice. The hotel’s location is perfect, walking distance from everywhere in the old historic center. I would certainly return there.

Personally, I did not care for the included breakfast, compared to some other places I stayed at in Ecuador. The WiFi connection in my room was not great. My room had no window to the outside, just to the hall, however this probably greatly reduced any traffic noise. Nearly none of the staff I had contact with spoke much English, but at least this gave me the chance to practice my Spanish.
