"Wouldn't stay again"

2.0

Room was in need of a deep clean and freshen up. Cobwebs on the ceiling, dirty sock behind drawers, leak in the bathroom and tiles looked dirty, toilet seat broken etc

Not clean enough or fresh enough. One member of staff was lovely whilst others looked so unhappy to be there.

"A lovely stay. Everyone was very helpful and kind. Thank you all very much"

I really appreciated you securing Lake side room for me and the help from the lady who tried to retrieve my stick for me. I enjoyed my tea on Monday night( homemade pie vegetables and chips) + thanks for the extra biscuits. THe room was lovely and cosy and that view is magnificent. To be honest if the weather had been really bad I could have had a good holiday just looking out of the window drawing the view and watching all the birds in the estuary!

I wasn't keen on the belly pork I had on Tuesday. It tasted over cooked and the whole meal felt a bit stodgy

"Nice place."

The location of The Fighting Cocks is perfect. Right on the promenade with a terrific view of the estuary and rail viaduct. Beautiful views of the sunset in the evening. Nearby to cafes and small shops too. We ate in the evening and the menu was great with a good choice. My husband had the fish and chips and it was HUGE! I had the scampi and have never tasted it as good anywhere else. Good choice of beers, cider and gins behind the bar, but not cheap, but nowhere is really nowadays I suppose. Our room was an accessible bedroom which was very clean, roomy and well appointed especially the wet room style bathroom. Breakfast next morning was delicious, especially the yoghurt and granola pot and the bacon and sausage served with the full English, plentiful and hot. Staff were friendly and helpful. We also liked the great choice of board games offered. We chose to play cards and Scrabble.

As mentioned, I intentionally booked an accessible room because I have mobility difficulties and need grab rails by toilets and shower. This room had all these and was suitable for my needs, including being able to park right outside it. However, the room is situated at the rear of the pub in the car park and UP A STEEP INCLINE!!! Which meant difficulty in walking back down to the pub so we could eat and then back up again to our room at night. Also the pub doesn't have an accessible toilet so I had to struggle back up the hill again to use the loo in the bathroom in our room and then back down to go back into the pub. This was very difficult and would have been impossible for me without the help of my husband. I don't think that this information about where the accessible room was located or the pub not having a disabled toilet was mentioned on the website or Booking.com as I don't think I would have chosen to stay here had I known about these difficulties.

Breakfast choice and quality was disappointing. Very much self service. People had spoken highly of breakfast so we were expecting something much more special. Place itself was quite rundown. Smelled of dogs.

"Good well run hotel."

Well run hotel, good breakfast and dinner in an excellent location. Booked late, so double room small. Worth checking available rooms before booking. Arnside, a picturesque large village overlooking the estuary.

"Great stay, all good!"

9.0

Well maintained and spacious room with a view. Bed was comfy and bathroom modern and clean. Breakfast with local produce was top notch.

The only thing to say was the breakfast came with half a piece of black pudding - that black pudding was so good I wanted a full piece 🤤

"Very Good"

The staff and the location.

The mattress springs were uncomfortable. A decent mattress topper would fix the problem. The dog in the next room was barking early in the morning.
