Sigiri Liya Rest

Fantastic comfortable stay. Monkeys running across the balcony on sunset was a real experience. The food is nice, albeit slightly more expensive than other places in the area. Staff were kind and accomodating. Great location, close to Sigiriya, and close to other great restaurants and cafes.

On the day we got in, the host offered to take us to a walk, and pick us up. It was about 10 mins away by car. It was Pidurangala, and we were billed 2500 rupees at the end for it. This wasn’t communicated and we would’ve walked or got a tuk-tuk if we had known. We also realised on our last day that our stay included breakfast (our fault for missing it originally), but we were never asked about it, which we thought was a bit strange. Just small things that made our stay good, not great.

There were only 2 good things. AC And comfortable bed that we didn’t even sleep in for full night!!

First of all, upon our arrival owner took my passport and was “too busy to fill” customer book for 4 or 5 hours! Up until the evening when we asked him to return my passport for 5th time! This is really not normal and unprofessional, especially when you see that he is walking around, smoking cigarettes and chilling, talking to friends and other customers, didn’t seemed that “busy”. When we entered the room it was dirty!!! Floor full of sand, hair in bathroom and extremely dirty sheets and bed! It was super disgusting! And since we booked the room only for 2 nights we decided to ignore everything and went to sleep. We woke up in the middle of the night from horrible smell of smoke inside of our room! We taught that building was on fire! My husband jumped out of bed and went to check what it was. Somebody was burning rubbish right under our room and all smoke was inside of our room. The worst part was that there were no windows to the other side of the room so we couldn’t let any fresh air in! My husband went to the owner to ask him to do something about it and they didn’t even extinguish it completely, charcoal was still smoking! So we called our driver and left the property at 3AM in the morning!! I highly recommend avoiding this place. I think reviews are fake, because they didn’t seem hospitable or clean or caring about issues.

Hele lieve en vriendelijke eigenaren. De kamers zijn iets gelegen van de weg, wat heel prettig is. De kamer rook een beetje muf, na dit aangegeven te hebben, hebben ze hier meteen iets aan gedaan. In de avond hebben we hier diner gehad, waarbij de groentencurry’s erg goed waren. Ze gaven ook aan als we van iets meer wilde hebben, we dat gewoon mochten vragen. Dat hebben we van 2 curry’s ook gedaan, om niet genoeg van te krijgen zo lekker. Eigenaresse ging ons ook uitgebreid uitleggen welke groenten hiervoor gebruikt werden (onbekende voor Europeanen ;-)) In tegenstelling tot het diner vonden we het ontbijt een beetje tegenvallen, het was erg simpel. Het bestond uit een paar sneetjes wit brood met boter en jam en 1 gebakken ei. Summier in tegenstelling tot hoe smaakvol het avondeten was, de kookkunsten van de eigenaren zijn hier niet in benut, aangezien er weinig zelf aan gemaakt was. We konden wel om zoveel koffie of thee vragen als er behoefte was.

- Grande chambre - Lit supplémentaire bébé gratuit - Très bon wifi - Climatisation + ventilateur - Eau chaude - Nous sommes passés par Chatura le fils de la famille pour un safari afin de voir les Éléphants (65€ la jeep 2 personnes et un bébé) et nous n’avons pas été déçu, lui et son ami nous ont emmené voir des dizaines d’éléphants. Et ils ont été adorables !!

- L’hygiène doit être amélioré - Rajouter une moustiquaire serait bien, on s’est fait pas mal piqué - Un petit déjeuner était inclus dans notre réservation mais on a eu l’impression de forcer un peu pour l’avoir auprès des parents qui préféraient que l’on commande à la carte dans leur resto

Nous avions réservé une nuit nous sommes finalement rester deux nuits , super chambre au calme avec vu sur un très beau jardin. L’accueil était parfait , les plats du restaurant sont délicieux. Ils nous ont enmener tôt le matin au pirudangala, et trouver quelqu’un pour le safari l’âpres midi. Nous recommandons vivement ce super endroit
